The Boards, Monday Afternoon

It was a day for wandering around Fandom. Actually, it should have been a day for catching up on independent studies and everything else Natalie had missed with regards to the outside world during the past week. But having left Peter asleep, she found she was still pretty lacking in focus for useful things like that. So, wandering it was. Getting a coffee in town, then just walking around for a while. Until she got to the Boards, and remembered the key in her pocket, and the song that she'd had stuck in her head for a while in the dungeon, and realized what she really wanted to be doing right now. She let herself in, threw her empty takeaway cup in the trash, and made her way to the piano.

As soon as she was sitting down, she felt more at home in herself than she had since waking up in the preserve last night. Once she begun to play, the feeling got stronger.

"If the world did end, would you be my apocalyptic friend? Until tomorrow then."

And once she'd started to sing, soft but not somehow quite as distant and detached as usual, it was corny but –– She felt things might be okay again. Not immediately. But at some point.

"If the skies did fall, would you pick up my last call? Until tomorrow then..."

This was what she needed now.

After finally making his way home yesterday, Jono had managed to fall asleep in his shower two or three times. He'd dragged himself out of the bathroom eventually, drawn to the couch by the sad mewls of Joni, who had apparently missed him while he was gone. And there he'd fallen asleep, with a cat on his chest, waking in his usual nightmare fits and starts afterwards.

It was the music filtering up from downstairs that made him decide to stay awake, and Jono took at least enough time to put on some proper clothes and grab a couple of cups of coffee before heading down the stairs to listen.

Music. All the sleep in the world couldn't possibly compare to standing and listening to music, flowing along with a life of its own. Jonothon didn't dare interrupt, simply reaching to put one of the two coffee mugs down within Natalie's reach before standing back to appreciate her playing.

Really, it had been a long time since Jonothon had properly appreciated fireworks, himself. This, the ability to just stand in peace and listen to music, spoke to him far more greatly. The knowledge that he could join in freely if he so desired resonated with him all the more.

Sometimes, it was good to be alive.

He smiled as she played, closed his eyes and tapped his toe against the floor in time with Natalie's music.
