Devil's Nest, Friday Evening

Allie still had her nose buried in her phone alternating attempts at reading the Illiad with attempts at beating level 91 of Candy Crush. She honestly wasn't sure what was more frustrating.

Wisely Tiny stayed behind the bar reading up on summer themed drinks.

Mike left Tino alone for a while just because he hoped the bit of fresh air he could get on the walk over to the club would wake him up a bit.

"Hey," he said once he arrived. "Tell me you guys have coffee here. Lie to me if you must."

"Tiny can make a pot. It's probably not as good as what you'd get from the Perk," Allie said. "But I'm better company then the staff there so hopefully that can make up for it."

"Oh, it more than makes up for it." Even being tired could not turn off the charm, so he smiled. "And I would French kiss Tiny for coffee right now so thank you."

Funny how that last comment had Tiny moving that much faster.

"Any time," she smiled. "So what's up? Late night? Long day?"

Mike sighed. "All of the above. Pretty sure the only thing that didn't happen was my car breaking down."

"Well at least there's that then. And tomorrow's Saturday. Will you at least be able to sleep in?" For a vampire she was surprisingly optimistic.

"That's kinda the idea," Mike nodded. "Should be a quiet day for me, because there's that whole picnic shindig at the school."

"New people for the island to traumatize," Allie said, remembering what Tiny had told her. "Do you think anyone will warn them they might wake up the opposite sex one morning?"

Mike shrugged. "I don't know. But Pinkie's probably gonna be there to welcome everyone, so... I mean, after they meet a super cheerful pink pony they should be prepared for anything, right?"

"Are you speaking from personal experience there?" she laughed.

"She fired a party cannon in my house." Yeah. "Granted, that wasn't our first meeting, but still. I know how... impressive she can be."

Impressive. Mike was so sweet and polite. "I was lurking in the corners at that party. It was an experience, a good one, don't get me wrong. Just kind of overwhelming. I'd only been here a few weeks at that point."

Allie grinned, "Of course now I just join in on the obnoxious card game. Even if I don't get half the jokes."

Mike laughed. "Oh, I think it's maybe for the best to not get all the jokes," he decided. "I wish I couldn't get some of them. There's no way I'm getting them out of my head anymore."

Especially some of Pinkie Pie's choices. Good lord.

"So what you're saying is it's probably better that I don't go poking around on the internet trying to figure things out." The day she found Urbandictionary.com Allie was going to be horrified. And possibly highly amused.

"Prooobably," he agreed. "Really, you don't need to know how sick your friends' sense of humor is. Because we're all pretty bad."

"I can't see myself ever holding it against any of you. You're all good people." And it wasn't like she had so many friends she could be picky about it.

Eric was jabbing angrily at his phone and cursing in Swedish.

Feeling just a little guilty, Allie sent Eric an extra life.

"What level?"

"Fucking 56," Eric groused. "I hate the chocolate so much."

"Then now probably isn't the time to mention how much you're going to love level 65," Allie replied. "It took me over a week to beat it."

"More chocolate?" Eric asked, sounding world-weary.

"More chocolate. If you can't kill it all in the first five or six moves you're doomed." Yeah, it had taken her the better part of the week to figure that out.

"I'm on 91 now. No chocolate, instead there's these annoying little blocker things in the way."

"Why am I playing this again?" Eric asked a little plaintively.

"Because what else are we supposed to do at three in the morning when the rest of the island is sleeping?"

Don't answer that question Eric.

"Having sex," Eric told her.

Sorry, narrative.

"I walked right into that one didn't I?"

Allie was going to be so thankful vampires didn't blush.

"Can I ask you a question? About that? Maybe?"

"Of course," Eric said. "I'm a pretty expert opinion there."

"Control. How do you keep it?" Since there hadn't been a rash of dead bodies on the island, Allie had to assume Eric managed to keep control if he was sleeping with humans. It was either that, or he was sleeping with Navaan. And wow, that was something she really didn't want to picture.

"Not killing them in the middle, you mean?" Eric checked. "Because losing some control is part of the fun."

Allie nodded, half horrified she was having this conversation with Eric, but at the same time recognizing he was probably the best source for answers. "I think we have different definitions of fun."

Or just completely different levels of experience.

"You'll get there," Eric said. "After a century, even the Kama Sutra gets kind of stale."

"Then I've got time before I need to worry."

Time, and a whole lot of basic experiences to get through before boredom could even possibly be considered an issue.

"Do you have anyone in mind? Please don't say Tiny."

Once Allie stopped laughing, she shook her head. "No, it was just a conversation Kaidan and I had. It got me thinking."

"Less thinking, more doing," Eric declared. "Sex is fun."

"I'll keep that in mind if the opportunity arises."

It was highly unlikely it would in her current social circle.

Eric snickered. "Dirty?"

"What?"

A beat.

"Oh god no!! At least not intentionally."

"Because I only usually don't screw employees here," Eric said. "It's not a rule or anything."

Allie bit back her immediate reaction of Oh Hell No! because a) pissing off your boss was probably not the best idea and b) pissing off your boss who was a thousand year old vampire was probably an even worse one.

"I appreciate that thought, and will definitely keep it in mind," she said carefully. "But for now, yeah, I think I'm okay. Thanks though."

Eric waved his hand lazily. "It's an option," he said. "I promise that I'm very, very good at it."

Dammit Eric, now she was going to have thoughts!

"I don't doubt it in the least."

Give her points for not scurrying away and hiding behind the bar.
