Mike was spending his evening humoring Adam and his texts about the fourth of July. Yes, already. Mike had no idea what was going on with that, and wasn't sure he even wanted to know.

Meanwhile, Tino was... being grumpy about something or other. Mike wasn't about to ask about that, either.

One bartender on his phone, the other moping, both ready to serve.

Derek looked from Tino, back to Mike before settling down in front of the less pissy looking of the two.

...Mike. He sat down by Mike, okay?

Hey now, Mike was mostly just faintly amused and incredulous at his phone. Adam, man. He never knew whether to laugh or to cry when it came to that kid.

He looked up and nodded at Derek. "Roomie, long time no see." Not really. "What can I get you?"

"Water." Unless you wanted to waste the alcohol. Did you want to do that, Mike? Did you? "We live together, do we need to hang out more than that?"

It wasn't Mike's alcohol, what did he care? He snorted as he got to getting a damn glass of water. "And here I thought you showed up 'cause you missed me. Harsh, man."

"I could pretend if you want," Derek replied dryly. "Don't know if I can work up the tears for it, though."

"Crying freaks me out." He set the glass down on the bar. "And if I freak out, grumpy face over there is gonna flip his shit, it'd be awful."

"Is he arguing with Tiny again?" Ah, cross-town bar gossip.

Mike squinted over at Tino.

"... Maybe? Honestly, I haven't asked."

Derek just made a noise of vague annoyance before taking a sip of the water. Because he didn't know where to move the conversation along to. Look, he was a socially awkward werewolf with more issues than a run of Iron Man.

No wonder dealing with the girl who'd come in earlier before disappearing into the lounge had felt so familiar.

He picked up his phone, gave it a demonstrative shake "Got friends trying to invite me over for the fourth of July already."

Hey now!

"It's May." YES, DEREK. THE SKY WAS ALSO BLUE.

Please, it was Natalie who should've been offended.

"Yeah. I know. I'm just not sure Adam does."

...accurate, but rude.

"Planning to go?" So the house will be all quiet and he can think about his dead, dead family.

Possibly watch sad movies on Netflix.

Mike shrugged. "It's May." As they've established already. "Maybe? Really not sure yet though, I haven't even been to the new club in Miami yet. Not sure I even want to visit. We'll see."

"Club?"

"Club."

Because that cleared that up. Thanks, Mike.

"An establishment kind of like this one where people go to enjoy themselves?"

"Wouldn't know anything about that." His was a special form of humor.

"No, I didn't think you would," Mike retorted, idly turning to get himself a glass of water too. Standing and talking was hard work. "Not just 'cause it's a strip club, either."

Derek was just going to give him a look for that. "Don't tell Stiles where this place is."

For the love of god. He wasn't up for dragging that dumb kid out of there.

"Pretty sure he's half convinced a strip club would eat him alive, dude." He shrugged. "Of course, he also think being a stripper is cool so I don't know."

"He's too dumb to function," Derek replied with a sigh.

Mike rolled his eyes.

"There are worse thing than strippers and strip clubs in the world."

"Like things with sharp teeth that want to kill him?" Derek asked dryly. "So lucky none of those exist."

"Those ones, yeah." Those things were awesome. Except not. "I can vouch for strippers not having particularly sharp teeth, at least."

"You never know."

Because apparently Derek worked in a gay dance club in New York. Thanks, Jeff Davis. Thanks.

Mike waved a hand. "Well, for what it's worth, my teeth are fine and I only bite people when asked."

"Didn't need to know that." Ever.

Snort. "Oh, I could overshare way worse than that. Easily."

"How? Stories about your thong?"

PROBABLY.

"Not just mine, either."

They'd had a sewing machine in the back room for costume mending. He had war stories, man.

"Did it involve glitter?"

"Don't all good things involve glitter at some point or another?"

Mike looked fabulous in glitter, by the way.

"I teach a class with Pinkie Pie."

GLITTER WAS ALL OVER HIS POOR WARDROBE.

Natalie had a soda, as she was sitting in the lounge. Mostly she'd just needed a walk through town. Yeah, even if the weather was horrid. Maybe even because it was. Made her feel awake and present.

She was still going to be here for a while. Maybe her hair would actually be dry-ish by the time she left.

Freaking out over some translations over here, don't mind me.
