The Boardwalk : Sunday Afternoon
Theo had found the boardwalk. He'd been looking for a good place to skateboard since getting to the island and finally, finally, he'd found it. It wasn't the same as the boardwalk in Santa Monica that he tended to go to but it was close.
Theo brushed his hair back with his fingers and pulled his cap on, getting his unruly hair out of his face before he dropped the board on the ground. He kicked off and started skating, feeling almost like he was right back at home.
"Jump the rail," Dev said, trying to push Theo into doing something he probably shouldn't be doing. "It'll be impressive! Everybody will be impressed!"
"There's no one around for Theo to impress, Dev," Ange said, frowning. "It's just going to get him hurt."
"It will not," Dev argued. "Theo knows what he's doing, he's an expert at this! Did you see how effortlessly he got on the skateboard?"
Ange rubbed her forehead in a very long suffering way. "This is only going to end badly. Please don't do it, Theo. Remember what happened last time. It didn't end well that time either. People laughed. Theo, don't."
"DO IT, THEO!!!"
Guess what Theo chose to do? He built up a lot of speed and jumped the board in an attempt to grind against the rail....but he didn't quite make it. The jump wasn't high enough which meant Theo went gut first into the rail and tumbled over it with a muffled shout.
...so, he was just going to lay there on the ground having had the wind completely knocked out of him. He really needed to stop listening to Dev. And yet, he knew he'd never stop listening to Dev. Oh well.
[Open post. Feel free to have seen Theo be an idiot or find him on the ground or whatever]

"I cannot imagine how that would have been fun for you," she remarked, surveying him on the ground. "You need an ice pack or something?"

"Ow." He rubbed his stomach again and winced. "I almost had it."
No, he hadn't.
no subject
Wasn't that nice of her? She thought it was nice.

"It's patronizing!" Dev disagreed.
Theo shook his head and rubbed at his hair. "Uneven ground. Of course." He pushed himself up to his feet and stretched, still wincing every so often. "Did you see the whole thing?"
no subject
Yeaaah.
She settled into a seated position. "Think you can stand, or is it really bad?"
no subject
Not that radio would report that but you know.
no subject
She probably wouldn't need such a thing, Theo. Don't worry.
"Or if the squirrels screw up and forget to report it, you can just blame the bruises on a tragic error in bounce coordination back at the campsite."

It was a death machine when he listened to Dev but still. "You never been on one either?"

Gert was eyeing you suspiciously now, Theo. Because the falling down.
"I don't know, I'm fairly sure I'd suck pretty hard."

Or listening to the proverbial devil on his shoulder, which Theo tended to do. And this time, there hadn't even been any girls nearby to try and impress. He just liked making bad decisions.
"Raven got on it in our room and she was fine. Didn't fall at all."

There weren't any stairs in their immediate area, anyway.
"Can I try?"
no subject
Ange actually smacked Dev for that suggestion and even Dev looked like he'd gone a little too far there, yeah.
"And if it makes you feel any better, I can barely do stairs and I've been doing this awhile."

She picked up the skateboard and set it down on the ground by her feet, stilling it under one foot. Then she set her other foot on it, gingerly kicked off, glided for about three seconds, and... stopped.
"Okay," she said, underwhelmed. "Not dead. Kind of entertained."

"GNARLY DUDE!" Of course Dev would say that. He just loved to piss Ange off when he could.
"And what's so wrong with that?" Theo asked, crossing over to her and glancing at the board. "Words might be a little different but you'd still understand, wouldn't you?"
