Outside Everything But The Monkey, Saturday Morning
April had forgotten that she was banned from J,GoB, which had thrown a bit of a curveball in her morning: upon waking up, she'd gone straight there for her customary morning carrot-raisin muffin, but had been turned away at the door by a terrified-looking barista who kept insisting that she 'knew why' she was banned. That was annoying, but April could deal: she just went ahead and picked up some groceries, including a corn muffin from the store's bakery section. It didn't have raisins in it, but it was close enough.
And now she was going on with her morning, which included a trip to the local pet store with a thick stack of paper in hand.
First she went inside to deliver this petition right up to the front desk, but the manager shushed her and bustled her out the front door to talk to her where potential customers couldn't hear. The fear on his face made it worth the inconvenience, in April's opinion.
"Hey, fucker," she said, thrusting the papers out to him. "Got those signatures you didn't believe I could get. Two hundred people want you to start taking better care of your dogs, asswipe."
The manager insisted that he had no idea what she was talking about, but April knew better and just kept talking over him. "I'm being nice, bro. Next step, I send my kids in here to start throwing all your stuff around. Remember when Magnus shattered the frog case? Yeah, good times."
"I, I really don't know--"
"Whatever, fucker," April said, turning on her heel and tossing the remaining papers in the air. "Take better care of your dogs. Ludgate out!"

Yes, technically the Boards were open and he should have been watching them in case of any potential customers, but even though he didn't need to take a break for lunch or even fresh air these days, even Jonothon needed to step out into the sun now and again and away from his work. It was serendipity that had him walking by the pet shop in time to catch April's demonstration.

And now Jono was going to get something of a bro-hug, if he didn't have any objections. Back-thumping and everything.

//And I'm certain the puppies here will be thankful for that. But if they need any more coercing after this, I stand by my offer to have Emma arrange for some sort of legal assistance. I don't mind fostering a few dogs while we look for proper homes for them, if it comes to that. I've lived with Scelties before.//
The Kindred dogs of Kaeleer were a much bigger handful than the normal pups of Earth. Jono had learned to let himself be herded early on, lest he suffer a good, solid 'nip' to the posterior.

Jono was teasing, and there was a sort of overtone of amusement in his voice as he spoke to show as much. Sure, technically, he was nearing his fiftieth birthday in a month or so, but his body had been torn apart and re-constructed so many times by now, it was a wonder that he looked a day over thirty.
//I'll consider it, perhaps. Now that I'm not doing as much traveling between here and Glacia as I used to, a dog might make for welcome company. Keep me on my toes.//

All six of them. Yeah, April was totally a crazy dog lady these days.
"I could see you with a beagle..."
no subject
... He'd probably be a sucker for big brown beagle eyes, yes. And it was a good British breed. And had an even temperament...
//I'd spoil the bloody thing rotten, you know. It'd get fat.//

She totally wasn't taking no for an answer, Jono. Just FYI.

And this was how Jono had ended up with Joni, too. Tell him she was a rescue. Shove her at him and run. The cuteness would do the rest of the work.
//What sort of situation is she coming from? Anything I should know about her?//
That wasn't a 'yes,' yet, April.
Just... very close to one.

April paused on a fourth picture and smirked to herself, but it was safe to say that this one wasn't of the beagle, because she skipped past it and kept looking through her photos. "She's a little clingy. Likes to fetch shoes without being asked. But fucking cute."
no subject
Ahem.
//Well... I'm used to clingy animals. Wouldn't blame her one bit, if she was abandoned like that, poor thing.// Jono's bio-nuclear psionic fiery heart was melting a little. You could tell. //The Boards have been childproofed a couple times over the years, so they should be dog-safe, too, but give me a few days to wander through and make certain of that before bringing her by just to be sure? Joni knows better than to go after electrical cords and the like, but a new puppy is a little more of a handful than a twenty-something theatre kitten.//
Plus it didn't help that he still wasn't certain if he was the one who had changed overnight, or if the island itself had. With this place, it really was difficult to tell.

So she was responsible, but she wasn't responsible. Never fear, Jono.
"...Magnus'll be super jealous if you walk off with his favorite puppy, just so you know."
no subject
Because.

Who was the best godfather ever? Huh?
no subject
Because April.
"If she doesn't, I'm hunting you down for my money back, obviously."
Ahahahahahaha like Jono got paid for those guitar lessons. Noooooooooooo.

It came in handy if she needed to drop off the kids.
Or, apparently, beagles.
no subject
Uh-huh. Sure.

Of course, most people's work didn't wag its tail when you came through the door, either.

Honestly, how had Jono not managed to see that coming?
//Not to mention the veritable revolving door that seems to be in place for my students. Christ, I need to start taking days off.//
Not likely to ever happen.
