Sulky Stiles was still sulky, but at least sulking didn't stop him from being productive. He had to finangle some stuff with the portolocity people so he'd be able to go back to Beacon Hills and from there he stopped by the Perk for much needed caffeine. Now he was taking the long way back to the dorms, not really paying attention to where he was going and instead focusing on texting and blasting obnoxious music from his earbuds.

It wasn't Taylor Swift this time around. No, now it was the kind of songs woo girls requested at clubs.

Your taste in music was terrible, Stiles. Just terrible.

And, since class wasn't the right time to ~~stalk~~ talk to Stile about his idiot friend, Jackson. And then Kitty and Jack could leave him alone because he talked to Stiles.

His plan was a master plan.

Because it also involved suddenly appearing from an alleyway next to Stiles.

Stiles, of course, jumped about a foot in the air when he spotted Derek. And, yes, it was accompanied by a manly squeak.

"Jesus, Derek!" Stiles yelled, pulling his earbuds out. "What the hell?"

"We need to talk." About Jackson.

"Do we?" Yeah, that was not a happy face. "What about?"

So many things. Most of which will not get discussed.

Well, they wouldn't be carrying on the proud Beacon Hills tradition if they just expressed themselves in a healthy, normal way.

"Jackson," he said, giving one of the squirrels a glare that turned his eyes blue until it scampered away.

Stiles rolled his eyes. What a drama queen. "What about Jackson?"

"The full moon is next week and I need to make sure he'll be somewhere he won't hurt people."

"Oh so you figured out he was a werewolf now?" Stiles asked. "I was wondering when that was going to happen."

"Maybe I thought someone would tell me if there was a problem. I was wrong." Yes, get into an argument here. That'll help.

"Funny, I thought the same thing about someone else. I was wrong too." Accusations and sass always helped things, it was true. "Anyway, I offered Jackson help with the full moon weeks ago. There's not much I can do if he doesn't want it."

Oooooo, burn!

"He's going to hurt someone," Derek ground out. "And you're going to help get him out of the dorms."

"Am I?" Stiles said. "I don't remember being asked."

"I don't remember asking."

Seriously, guys.

"Derek, you don't get to ignore me all week and expect me to follow along with whatever half-assed plan you have," Stiles said. "Does Jackson even know you're trying to help him? 'Cause you are not his favorite person in the world."

Derek sighed dramatically, looking away from Stiles in something you could maybe construe as shame if you looked close enough. Annoyance was the more obvious choice. "Jack talked to him. I'm talking to you, so it's not 'half-assed.'"

You idiot.

Sorry, Derek, if you were involved then any plan qualified as half-assed. "So, what, I'm supposed to lure him out of his room Sunday night with promises of designer scarves and non-fat lattes?"

Well, would that work?

"Would you prefer he claw someone to death?"

Stiles rolled his eyes again. "Fine. This probably won't go well but, hey, it wouldn't be someone's first full moon unless they tried to kill me."

That's probably why Erica and Boyd went missing. They jinxed themselves by not attacking Stiles.

It was true. Why did you have to get them killed, Stiles? So rude.

"Bring wolfsbane if you're that worried."

Jesus!Derek would not approve of your non-self sacrificing shenanigans, Derek.

"Fine," he said again. "Is that all?"

JESUS!DEREK NEEDED MORE TRAUMA FIRST.

Plus, it wasn't like he wouldn't be lurking around in case Jackson tried to attack. So, shh.

Derek stared at him for a moment. "Is it?"

Stiles shrugged a shoulder. "You're the one that stopped me, man."

Oh you two.

Congrats on having the maturity level of a teenager, Derek. Aim high.

Derek looked away, glaring at a random spot like that helped. "You're the one talking to Kitty. Who threatened to lock us in a closet. Thanks for that."

"Hey, I had to vent about you being a complete moron to somebody," Stiles said. "...wait, why a closet?"

He wasn't a moron, Stiles. He was a mature, responsible adult.

Stop laughing.

"She apparently doesn't realize I can break the door down." Or the wall. Or... well, he could break a lot of things.

"Doubt it would have helped with your whole moron situation anyway."

Derek just glared at him. "I was giving you space."

Meaning Derek needed space.

"I never said I needed space!" Stiles said. "If anyone needed space it was you, and you should have said something instead of lying to me when I asked what was wrong."

"I didn't lie." He just didn't say what was wrong.

"You said you were fine when you clearly weren't fine," Stiles pointed out. "That is lying, my friend."

...okay, you had him there.

"It was surprising. That's all."

Uuuuunderstatement.

"And I wasn't surprised?" he asked. "That doesn't explain anything, Derek. Come on, was this really worse than waking up handcuffed to a bed?"

"Yes," Derek snapped. "I didn't have pants. And it reeked of sex."

All accurate, but not the reason for it.

"Okaaaaaaay." That still made no sense to him. Stiles probably would have been able to put it together if he suspected just how much the whole Kate thing screwed with Derek's head but he didn't. Maybe give him a few years to take a college Psych course.

"Look, you obviously don't want me involved as you deal with some inner turmoil--which is a bullshit move, by the way." Because Stiles thought he should be involved in all the things. "But if you want space, I'll give it to you."

"...without having people lecture me?" He was confirming this one.

"I didn't want people to lecture you in the first place." No, he would have preferred it if Derek actually talked to him because he wanted to.

Oh, Stiles. He'd have to want to admit to himself all those issues first.

Derek just nodded. "This okay?"

"Yeah," he said with a nod. "I'm really not trying to drive you crazy, I swear. I was just worried."

He really didn't know what he'd do if one stupid weekend made him lose Derek as a friend.

Derek just shot him a look. "I doubt I could get rid of you."

"There's ways. Not that I'll be sharing them." Because they were on the soul crushing side. "But, space. I will give you that. I have to head back to Beacon Hills anyway. And I assume trapping Jackson doesn't count considering it's a life threatening situation."

Aside from that space would be had! Sure. It'll totally work.

"Don't do anything dumb there." That was Derek for 'be careful'.

"Well I'm hanging out with Scott, so..." Yeah all the dumb things would happen.
