Between the trauma of last week (though at least she could say she'd only ever killed one student!), Derek being mad at her, the fact that Doctor freaking Doom was hanging around, and her own issues, Kitty's blah mood hadn't really gone away. She could ignore it it she was busy, but it wasn't easy to do when things got quiet, and she was wondering if it would be crossing a line/freak him out if she showed up at Clint's place with a bag and said she was sleeping there for a week.

So she was glad to be at work tonight, in leather pants because even if it was hot out they made her feel badass, and watching Whose Wedding Is It Anyway on Netflix with Tino on his phone whenever she wasn't busy. Shut up, okay, once you'd seen a bride console a sobbing male wedding planner by telling him he'd ruin his makeup, you'd be hooked too.

This is totally how I made myself feel better last night when I was dealing with the horrible two-day heat headache that wouldn't go away. Woo for method RP!

Really, how was a shapeshifter meant to pass up an opportunity like that?

Raven shifted into an adult version of her usual disguise (making up all new shapes was hard, okay?) and headed to the bar.

"Well now, that's quite an offer." Why was she doing a bad southern accent? Why shouldn't she be doing a bad southern accent? "Really makes a girl feel welcome."

"That's the point," Kitty said with a smile. Also to get new customers who would then come back later but whatever. "You one of the new teachers?"

The key to a good lie was simplicity. "Oh no, honey, not me. I'm just terrible with teachin'. I get all confused trying to explain anything to anyone else. Nah, I just got in today, figured a nice little island like this would be a good place to open up a tanning salon for dogs."

Raven was still working on that whole "simplicity" thing.

Kitty tilted her head. "Do dogs really need tans when they're covered in fur?"

Not even a little.

"Well sure, darlin'!" Raven was starting to enjoy this. "A good tan really makes that fur glow."

Yeah, Kitty wasn't buying it, but it wasn't like she hadn't heard weirder things. Maybe she came from some alternate universe where dogs really did get tan, or maybe she was extremely delusional, who knew. "Well, good luck with that," she said. "What can I get you?"

"You know, I would just love a Tom Collins."

It was the only cocktail that came to mind.

"Coming right up," Kitty said, starting on the drink. "So what's your name?"

"Clara," Raven said, spouting the first name that came to mind. "Clara Barton, nice to make your acquaintance. And yourself?"

You'd have to blame the history class for that one. Got her mind on famous historical women.

"Like the founder of the Red Cross." History teacher here, hi. "You must get that... probably never, actually."

"Mostly just folks sayin' 'well hey, I think I hearda you.' I keep hopin' it'll be for my dog tannin' plans, but nope." Raven gave a 'what can you do?' sort of shrug. "And what's your name, then, darlin'?"

"Kitty Pryde," she said, sliding over her Tom Collins. "This is my bar."

Raven took a sip and tried not to flinch visibly at the gin. She wasn't really much of a drinker, no.

"Well ain't that just the grasshopper's knees!" And, yeah, that accent was getting thicker. "So're you behind them animatronic monsters up there playin' up a storm, then, too?"

She knew they were zombies. She was just having a little too much fun inventing Clara Barton's home universe.

Somewhere Rogue was even cringing at this accent.

"No, they're zombies," Kitty said helpfully. "Not the brain-eating kind."

Please, where do you think she got it from?

"Well that sure is helpful," Raven said. "Wouldn't be any good to have a brain-eatin' band in the same room as some good ole fashion brain-rottin' liquor. But you know, ah never woulda pegged you for a voodoo queen, just lookin' at ya."

Whaaaat?

...

"Uh, I'm not," Kitty told her. "They just came with the place."

"Well ain't that somethin'," Raven said. "I wonder if'n mah doggie tannin' salon will come with its own in-house zombie band, too!"

She was maybe having too much fun with this.

"As we're the only zombie-adjacent business in town, I think your salon should be free and clear," Kitty assured her.

"Well, they do seem like they'd be mighty distractin' for the poor tannin' pups. Oh, but they work real well here, bless their hearts! You know, just so's long as they're not servin' the drinks."

"Never," Kitty said immediately. "I refuse to deal with a lawsuit because someone got served a finger."
