Tiny was paging through a copy of Cosmo someone had left behind the bar when Allie arrived. She was more then willing to leave him be, until he started moaning about failing the relationship quiz. At that point Allie confiscated the magazine for herself and settled in to read.

It was definitely interesting.

"Hey," Kaidan greeted, sinking into a seat at the bar. "You look engrossed."

"I'm not sure that's the right word," Allie said, turning the magazine around and pushing it towards Kaidan. "Read this and tell me what you think. Personally I'm leaning towards What. The. Hell????"

"That bad?" Kaidan asked, glancing over.

"You tell me, would you ever use the fact that a guy got arrested for having sex with a car as a conversation starter?" she asked, still shaking her head.

"...Wait, what?" Kaidan said, chuckling a tiny bit - mostly disbelief. "A car? How does that even work?"

Allie nodded, "Exactly. I can't even picture it. However it does say he was drunk at the time so I suppose that helps."

"No, it still doesn't explain how," Kaidan said. He was possibly putting too much thought into this.

Well Kaidan, you asked for it.

Pulling the magazine back around, Allie ran her finger down the article and read "...was having a boys' night out when he was caught on a security camera with his pants around his ankles, humping away at an innocent Land Rover parked in the lot of a kebab joint."

"Just against the side of the-- eugh."

"Tiny, get the poor man a drink," Allie laughed, "I think he needs it."

Since Tiny had read the same article early, Kaidan's drink turned up in record speed.

"So, yeah. As a conversation starter, just no."

"Yeah, if you're going to start like that, there's a better tier of fetish material you can go for," Kaidan said, slamming back a mouthful of beer.

"Lalalalalala..." Allie's hands were over her hears and she was most definitely NOT listening. "Don't want to know. Don't want to know."

"...Sorry," Kaidan said, after a beat. "Uh... you didn't hear me say that."

Though if you ever wanted to know where the special extranet sites we-- never mind.

"No, I didn't," she replied, shuddering lightly. "Let's move on to topics less likely to bring on scary visuals. How was your week?"

"Quiet," Kaidan said. "But I find myself saying that a lot. Students seem to be handling themselves okay, though, and nothing terrible's happened."

"Yeah, it has been pretty quiet. We should probably be worried." Twenty-fours later, when Allie woke up with boy parts, she was going to look back at this conversation and sigh. A lot.

"I did help Nick figure some stuff out the other night, I just wish I could do more."

"Who's Nick?" Kaidan asked, sipping from his bottle.

"He works over at the hotel," Allie explained. "He came to town over the summer and is kind of stuck here for the time being. Since I can relate, we hang out sometimes."

"Yeah, that's pretty rough," Kaidan said after a moment. "For both of you, I mean. You figure something out?"

"Oh he can leave." She was only a little jealous of that fact. "But he doesn't want to. Not until he gets a handle on the weird powers he picked up right before he got here. He doesn't want to accidentally hurt anyone at home."

"We did figure out that his powers aren't fading away like he'd hoped. They just don't work on supernatural types." Particularly supernatural types of the undead variety. They just hadn't narrowed that part down yet.

"I guess he could've picked a worse place to manifest powers," Kaidan said thoughtfully. He took another swig of his drink. "Still, yeah. How'd he pick them up?"

"He got hurt in a climbing accident, in Greece if I remember correctly," Allie answered. "He got a blood transfusion from some old woman and now he can't make direct eye contact with anyone without bad things happening."

"Almost sounds like a story from a comic book," Kaidan said, tapping his fingers against the glass. "Just like that, huh?"

"I suppose, not that I have any room to talk considering I'm the main character in a horror novel."

Technically Dystopian Young Adult fiction, but who was going to argue the point?

"Or urban fantasy," Kaidan offered. "...Yeah, I know, our lives are all kind of crazy."

"They are, but at least we're used to them at this point." At least until the next time the island threw something weird at them. "Nick's still trying to figure it out."

"I should introduce you two one of these days."

"Maybe you should," Kaidan agreed. "I don't know. Maybe I can help."

"It's worth a shot," Allie agreed. "At this point he has a pretty good handle on them and how to avoid hurting anyone. It's the dealing with your whole life changing that's a problem."
