Demon Marcus, Sunday, All Day
"Really?"
It had been shaping up to be just another one of those days at the Demon Marcus while Sparkle unpacked and put out new shipments around the store. And then he had gotten to the box of new hats.
"I mean, come on. There are zombies on the island. We don't want to advertise this, do we?"
The box of brain hats.
"Really?"
And yet, Sparkle didn't have the heart to leave them in the back next to the old burn barrel. He slapped a buy-one-get-one sign up next to the display, and then shrugged and got back to putting out new merchandise.
Heh. Brain hats.
[Open, Lazy Sunday means no OCD!]

"Hey," Topher said, bouncing up to the counter and then leaning on it. He looked pretty enthusiastic. "I have a question about some of your merchandise."
no subject
It was hard to say no to that sort of enthusiasm, really.
no subject
One of those questions was actually of reasonable importance to him, while the other one was just kind of... words.
no subject
"I think we had a few green ones," he shared. "You really hell-bent on getting all wool, though? Pretty sure they're a cotton-polyester blend."
Because Sparkle hadn't checked, but he knew his materials, okay?
no subject
Or you could just try putting one on your head, Topher. That was something you could do.
no subject
He made a reach for one of the brain hats. Even managed to find a green one in there, and tossed it Topher's way.
"Give it a try, huh?"
no subject
Look, it was fall and he was from California. He got cold, okay?
"Oh man, this is really comfy," he proclaimed, sounding very slightly awed. "Does it look good?"
no subject
"Looks like you're wearing a green brain on your head," he replied, because that was totally his verdict on the matter, and gave his shoulders a shrug. "If that's the look you're going for, you're rocking it."

no subject
Sparkle raised an eyebrow.
"Because I can. I can even like help you accessorize with it. You need a scarf? That hat so screams for a scarf. Maybe something in, like, intestine."
no subject
...Topher's hair had been a little weirdly shiny-smooth lately ever since he'd followed Jessica's advice to start washing it with girl shampoo. Hence hats.
no subject
"Yeah, we probably have blue, too," Sparkle said, ducking behind the counter and rifling through the box. A moment later he surfaced again, plunking the thing down on the counter next to the first. "One blue brain hat, for the guy who doesn't like proper clothing store customer service after all. That all you want today?"
no subject
But the hats made her do a double-take.
"Those are terrible," Karina announced.
And if she had to explain what she was insulting then his taste in fashion was even worse.
no subject
A pause.
"Hey."
no subject
Karina would have been ashamed to be your friend then, Sparkle. Ashamed.
"Wait... you sold two? Seriously?"
no subject
Sparkle shook his head in bewilderment.
"I mean, there's no accounting for taste, I guess?"
no subject
Because Karina was judgy that way.
no subject
no subject
no subject
Now he was just being a brat.
no subject
"As if I'd buy that," she said, a bit snootily before shrugging. "But I could use a new pair of boots. Got anything that'd suit me?"
no subject
That was not a stretch.
"You want 'em for winter, or just something to show off your legs with through the fall?"
no subject
Karina did Heroing work in heels. She was a master at them.
no subject
"Of course you're not," Sparkle replied as he nodded his agreement. "Anyone who dresses like that knows how to wear heels. You want something to match what you've got on, then? I could probably find you something that goes with that cute hat you sometimes wear. The one with the triangles on it."
Sparks would so wear a hat like that, except it would do horrible things to his hair, and that just would not do.
no subject
Well, okay, it was, but just because of her powers.
"If you can match it, though, I'll buy them."
Karina liked triangles.
no subject
no subject
no subject
Sparkle certainly wasn't. He could hand Karina new boots all afternoon.
... And secretly envy her ability to afford them.
no subject
"Only if they're really terrible boots," Karina said, just as loftily. "I have standards."
no subject
Thank god.
"So, tall boots? Short ones? You want a heel on those, I know that already..."
no subject
Karina paused and shook her head.
"I don't want to know," she decided. "Let's start with tall and work our way down."
no subject
Now he was just

no subject
He held up another pair of boots, eyeing it critically, and then shook his head and stuck it back on the shelf.
no subject
no subject
He'd guessed well, okay? Sparkle had an eye for fashion. And apparently feet.
no subject
no subject
Look, maybe he just liked to play dressup.
no subject
"I mean, we don't have to do just shoes all afternoon."
no subject
Shoey? Not a word. Sparkle? Not inclined to care.
