Book Haven, Thursday
If asked about the holidays, Rosalind's only response would be a long look. She hadn't celebrated them—they weren't her holidays, after all.
Anyway, today she was in the shop and while she was working on placing an order for new books, every now and then she'd glance up at the books already on the shelves and shake her head.
Each book had a post-it note, in a different colour of the rainbow, stuck to its spine. There didn't seem to be a rhyme or reason to the colours.
It was probably just the island being itself.
The shop was open and there was a sign outside that said:
Now hiring! Apply inside!

Talk to Rosalind
Re: Talk to Rosalind
Hello, Rosalind. Jono figured he was going to start with a fairly casual opener, because 'So I'm on fire again and I would like some pleasant company' was a little too straightforward, even for him.
Re: Talk to Rosalind
She glanced up, took in his appearance in a blink, and said dryly, "It's extremely rudimentary and poorly thought-out."
Re: Talk to Rosalind
Because they had nothing to do with each other, Jono.
He stuck his hands into his pockets, took a few more steps into the store, and then shrugged his shoulders. //At least they're just post-its. Nothing's been rearranged, has it?//
Re: Talk to Rosalind
Rosalind looked back at him.
"Is this a social visit or were you looking for something in particular? Either's fine."
She expected that it had to do with letting her know about his... face..., but she had perfectly good eyes. It was obvious that something had gone terribly, terribly wrong.
And she knew Jono better than she knew anyone else on the island. Since he'd come to her, he likely wanted to be around someone who wouldn't fuss.
Re: Talk to Rosalind
//Social visit. I'm about to crawl out of my bloody skin, sitting around the Boards.// A beat. //For several reasons, I suppose. Felt the need to be out and about.//
And, as she was speculating, to be around someone who was not only used to his face, but who wasn't going to freak out about it.
Re: Talk to Rosalind
"You're always welcome here," she said simply. "You know that."
Or he should.
Re: Talk to Rosalind
And then, after a moment's silence, he tilted his head at her.
//How's business been? I imagine the island's been quiet these last couple weeks.//
Re: Talk to Rosalind
Especially since, if it didn't, it wasn't like she was hurting for money.
"I didn't really bother with decorations or anything for the holiday."
Re: Talk to Rosalind
Mostly because he'd been otherwise occupied. But still.
