Buffy may have been spending her shift catching up on the potential Oscar nom movies on her laptop. Though less than legal means. Listen, she had saved the world several times she was allowed to stream some movies illegally, okay? She'd be able to tear her eyes away long enough to do her job. Maybe.

Hey, if that was true, Dean got to watch all the illegal shit he wanted.

"Seriously?"

Buffy just held up a finger to get Dean to hush for a second. Excuse you, she was trying to watch American Hustle.

...rude. Which was why Dean was leaning around to check what it was.

"Hey, that hot chick with the bow."

"I'm not holding a bow right now," Buffy said. "But I do think I have some crossbows in my basement."

"Are you trying to get me all hot and bothered?"

"Do I even have to try to do that?"

Dean gave her a thoughtful once over. "Nah. You gonna get me a beer or keep watching your movie?"

Buffy let out a long-suffering sigh but managed to hop of her stool to grab a beer. "You're lucky I'm nice."

"Just make it strong and keep it coming," Herc requested of the bartender. Then he considered her for a moment, and her laptop, and amended that to, "Actually, just leave the bottle." Wouldn't want to be a bother while getting smashed.

"Whiskey okay with you?" Hey, Dean was the hard drinking sort and he drank whiskey all the time so that's what she was going with.

"Whiskey's perfect, thank you," Herc assured her.

He would worry about his downward spiral into alcoholism...some other time.

"Coming up." Buffy chose a whiskey that wasn't dirt cheap but wasn't the really good stuff either. No need to waste it on somebody who was probably just going to knock it back quick. "Try not to go too overboard."

"I'm Australian, we don't believe in such a thing," he told her, a hint of humor seeping through.

"Ah, yes, I remember that sort of attitude from one of your English cousins," she said. "Just remember that just because I'm strong enough to carry you home doesn't mean I want to do it."

"I guarantee that will not become necessary," Herc assured her.

"You okay there, buddy?" Dean asked, eyeing the guy warily.

"No," Herc said bluntly. "Not exactly."

"Fandom thing?" Because this place was bullshit.

"Part of it," Herc told him. "But it sucked before I ever got here. This place just managed to make it worse." He tossed back a shot of whiskey like the pro he was.

"Yeah, welcome to life." Be more bitter, Dean.

Herc muttered, "Tell me about it," and then grabbed the bottle to pour another shot, telling Dean conversationally, "My son's here. My son's in my class."
