There were new students, and teachers, on the island but other than a vague wonder if it would bring in new customers, Rosalind hadn't really paid that much attention to all of them showing up, except to ascertain there was no one she knew who'd arrived.

Rosalind didn't know what she'd do if someone from her world, that she recognized, ever showed up but that was a different matter.

Today, while listening to podcasts of the radio, she worked on unpacking a new shipment of books and setting them out. The shop, possibly out of respect for the new books, was behaving itself today.

The shop was open and there was a sign outside that said:

Now hiring! Apply inside!

A cabbage merchant appeared on Sphinx Street some time into the afternoon. He looked cabbage merchant-y enough, though his clothes seemed like they'd be more appropriate in the 13th century than in this one. His stand was made of rickety wood and half-smeared in mud; it was also full of cabbages.

He stood there for half an hour, shouting silently into the air. He made no real sound, and didn't seem to notice anyone passing him by. He was solid, but not reactive. Touching him would not be unlike touching granite, unmovable, unbreakable-- but warm.

There were eddies in the air surrounding him, flickering gently, like disparate streams of vapor.

After that half hour was up, he disappeared, leaving no trace of his presence.

[[ open to reactions from passers-by. ]]

It still felt strange to walk around and not have to worry about looking over her shoulder. She still did since it was an ingrained habit by now but, as each day passed, she felt more and more comfortable with believing what Jaxon had told her about this place. He'd assured her the place was special, that it accepted all people and that she wouldn't have to worry about the NVD, the SVD, the Emim or the Rephaim there. He did say she might uncover a new set of problems but he thought she could deal with those new issues just fine.

Paige was fine with new issues. Definitely fine. The old issues were the ones that she needed to recover from and just the act of making her way into a small coffee shop, ordering something warm and caffeinated before taking a seat without worrying about being dragged off to the Tower or given the NiteKind were enough to start that process.

So far, things were good. Paige hadn't realized how much she needed this reprieve and this retreat away from SciLo until she'd settled into her apartment and bed a few nights ago. Any guilt she'd felt about leaving her friends behind had vanished when she'd fallen asleep and slept through the night for the first time in a long time.

Today was a day for sitting and drinking coffee. She had a few newspapers in front of her that she was browsing through in an attempt to catch up on the things she'd missed for one reason or another. She'd even left her spirit bodyguards behind for the time being. She didn't feel like she needed them.

Sam had a decent amount of work to do today, but first, she was determined to set up the espresso machine she'd finally given in and bought for the office. There were a few reasons for that. She liked espresso and was in dire need of caffeine today, first of all. But more importantly, she thought that teenagers in town might find an espresso machine to be a worthwhile office perk, and that was particularly relevant given the sign that was hanging in the window today.

DISCOUNTED DESTINATIONS
US cities where it's more than 10 degrees Celcius today
Planets starting with the letter 'M'
No, not that sign, the other one.

NOW HIRING

That was it.

Buffy may have been spending her shift catching up on the potential Oscar nom movies on her laptop. Though less than legal means. Listen, she had saved the world several times she was allowed to stream some movies illegally, okay? She'd be able to tear her eyes away long enough to do her job. Maybe.

Spider-Woman was having a quiet night. You know, just her, clay pigeons, a disc launcher, a rooftop, and target practice. She was done with classes for the week, so she could focus entirely on her personal revenge story for a few days. Once she was done with this, maybe she'd take a day trip to DC, barge into a Congressman's office, and start making general accusations, just to get a feel for that kind of thing. Technically speaking, she could probably get away with it in a universe that wasn't her own.

But that was for tomorrow. For tonight, she was just going to make a clay mess out of things up here on the roof. Sorry about the noise, people around the warehouses!

[OOC: Open, if anyone's around the warehouses tonight.]
