Tiny had brought a TV in and set it up on the bar. He and the DJ were huddled in front of it arguing over what to drink while they played the Opening Ceremony Drinking Game.

"What's all this?" Éponine asked as she made her way over to a seat at the bar.

It could be a group educational experience!

"Some sports thing," Allie explained. "They tried to explain but got distracted by drinking."

Éponine eyed the TV dubiously. "What sort of sport competition calls for people to wear silly outfits like that? Maybe those two've the right of it after all, drinking instead."

"It think the outfits are just a ceremonial thing." Maybe. This world was weird sometimes. "They've been showing clips of the events and people are dressed differently then."

"So there's more than just this milling around in front of that big old crowd looking silly! And a good thing, too. God knows, I'd sooner freeze again than parade about in front of an audience in those."

Éponine waved a hand at the TV screen and huffed disdainfully. Those USA outfits were really that bad.

Almost like Ralph Lauren ground up an eagle and shot it at a sweater.

"Oh yeah, some of the events look amazing. Skiing I think the called it, and skating...the way people moved was wow!" Someone was hooked.

And an apple pie, too. Possibly a Chevy, too.

Éponine noted Allie's enthusiasm and let out a short, gruff laugh. "So d'you think I ought to go out of my way to watch any of it myself, then?"

"It might be interesting. Probably better then half the nonsense that's usually on." Allie still preferred books over TV and movies most days.

As did Éponine; she liked being able to picture things the way she wanted to in her head, and it annoyed her unreasonably when characters and scenes didn't look the way she thought they should. (Were she proficient enough with computers, she'd be posting photosets of fancasts left and right on Tumblr.)

"Well, now I'm curious, so I'll have to come down here to watch, I suppose, since I haven't got a television," she said in a tone that suggested she didn't think it was a situation that warranted fixing.

"Can I have a beer, please?" Kaidan asked, raising his voice as he entered. "Oh-- Winter Olympics?"

"Apparently," Allie said as Tiny reluctantly tore his attention from the TV for the two minutes it took to pour a beer. "They were trying to explain everything to me early. It sounds interesting."

"Hey, it's got hockey," Kaidan said, sitting down at the bar. "Of course it is."

"That's the one with the guys on the ice right?"

Weep for her lack of sports knowledge. Weep!

Kaidan chuckled. "Allie, that covers every sport at this thing."

"No, some of them are on snow. I've figured out that much," Allie laughed. "Give me a week and I'll have a better clue."

"So what's happening? Anything new?"

Kaidan ran his fingers over his hair. "Joker figured me out," he said. "Well. The part where I'm from his future. I'm... not sure how to deal with it."

"Ouch. That's a tough one," she frowned. "I imagine you don't want to tell him too much. That would complicate things wouldn't it?"

Kaidan snorted. "Yeah," he said. "On the other hand, I keep thinking-- what if he knew? About the Reapers? About Shepard? God, I don't even know if he'd believe me."

"Even if he did, would the people that matter believe him?" Allie asked. "Would it make things better or worse? And what happens if it changed things?"

What if it meant you never came to the island? What would Allie do then?

She'd make friends. Somehow.

"Exactly," Kaidan said. He reached for his beer. "But what if I'm squandering an opportunity to make things better? To save Ash, to save Shepard - to save all of those people who died because of Sovereign?"

"I don't know," she said honestly. "Because you might change things to save them, but wind up dead yourself. You don't know things would change."

"I didn't tell him much," Kaidan said, after a prolonged silence.

"You'll have to decide if you're going to tell him more. But if I wind up not knowing you, I'm going to be mad." Allie paused, thinking about that logic. "And you've officially got my brain going in circles for the rest of the night."
