The Devil's Nest, Saturday, February 15th

After two years worth of kids -- hers and other people's -- tromping in, you'd think Bo would be able to predict when this was going to go down and dress at least vaguely like she didn't work in a particularly dangerous brothel slash martial arts studio, but in her defense, last year it happened after Prom. She thought she had at least two more months to work with here!

At least Tiny had no room to give her crap about it, Bo thought as she set up the bar and watched him explain his job as a bouncer to the three-inch-tall gossamer-winged preschooler who was riding around on his shoulder.

His shirtless shoulder with the studded leather armband just below it.

The gesture he made when Bo lifted an eyebrow in his direction was either Apparently I shrunk? or something she'd never seen a guy admit about himself ever. Bo just shook her head, said, "I don't wanna know," and gave the kid a maraschino cherry she was still nibbling on half an hour later.

Welcome to the Devil's Nest.
Yes, we card.
But we also have half-price milkshakes.

"AUNT BO!" That would be a wired with only a teeeny bit of booze in her little telepath. "WE FOUND YOU!"

Like she'd been hiding, or something. The 'we' was clearly Ellie, and the little dark-haired girl following her in.

"Mooooooom," called the other girl. "Why is our house decorated weird? What's a doomhaus?" She scrambled up on a stool, and then grinned. "I'm tall, Ellie! Look!"

"She didn't come with us last time." Ellie was climbing the bar stool as well, and now pointing at Aunt Bo, imitating her and snickering. "Or the other time. We outran Vlad!"

"He shouldn't get to go to the past three times," Maeve agreed, smirking smirkily at Bo. That was really the only way to describe it. "Mom! Make me a drink!"

So much for manners. But she really wanted to know if her powers would work on younger Mom.

"Yessss!" Maeve made a little fist-pump, then did a chair-dance she only could've learned from Kenzi. "Thank you for giving me what I wanted!"

Ellie was poking at her and hissing GONNA TELL GONNA TELL, but Maeve just poked her back, before reaching for her milkshake.

"But I did it! It never worked that well before!" And probably wouldn't again, now that Mom was ready for it. Maeve slurped her drink and then made bubbles in it. "Mommy didn't think I'd ever manage that!"

"She's Maeve, and she's not supposed to do that," Ellie tattled. "And she's seven too. And can I have a milkshake, please Aunt Bo, please?"

By now, Toby was quite familiar with recognizing when it was One Of Those Weekends. Which naturally led to a bit of mental fishing about, which in turn led to him arriving at the Devil's Nest.

"You get any extra-special deliveries lately?" he asked Bo. Like, maybe, a wee telepath.

"DADDY DADDY DADDY!"

Okay, that should answer that question.

"DADDY DADDY DADDY!"

... but the wee tiny newcomer behind her begs a whole ton more, probably.

Okay, yes. One of them was definitely the tiny telepath he was familiar with. The other... not so much.

"Hey!" he said brightly, doing his best not to let the fact that he didn't recognize the other little girl show. "What have you been up to? Not too much trouble, I hope?"

"Maeve made Aunt Bo give her a milkshake!"

You could tell they were sisters, couldn't you?

"She didn't care! She just said I should say please!" Maeve poked Ellie's shoulder. "Ellie said we should jump in the portal and run away from Vlad!"

So, so, so sisters.

Sooooo much tattling going on here. "Is that so?" he said, raising an eyebrow at- well, both of them.

Both of them looked a little shame-faced when getting the eyebrow. There might have been one more poke before Maeve admitted, "I'm sorry?" Poke. "I'm sorry." She stuck out her tongue at Ellie. "Ellie's sorry too." Poke!

"Can we go to the park tomorrow? Pleeeease?"

Maeve didn't try using her superpowers on Daddy. That never worked. And that thought was probably pretty loud from both her *and* Ellie.

"Apology accepted," Toby said graciously. And... superpowers, hmmm? Between those thoughts, and Ellie's earlier comment about Maeve making Bo give her a milkshake, Toby put two and two together.

"I think we could swing that," he said, after pretending to think about it for a moment or two. "Especially since you asked so nicely." Emphasis on the 'asked'.

Maeve pouted, and Ellie actually felt a little bad for her now. "She asked when we were in the other bar-- ooooops."

Yes, they'd already had two milkshakes tonight. They were going to be wired for a whiiiile.

Maeve's eyes got round. "Shhhh! ... I mean. We were hungry?" They had been! Really! "No fair. We can't lie to you."

Seriously! How was a kid supposed to get away with anything?
