The Park, Monday Sundown

Just like a portal had appeared in the park on Saturday morning, one now appeared late on Monday again. But whereas the first portal had sent children of various ages and parentages tumbling onto the island, this one sent out a call that all said children had to heed.

It was time to say goodbye and go home.

Nat was taking small steps, which was ridiculous when you were almost 16 and had two perfectly functional parents at home waiting for you.

The tiny versions were kind of adorable, though, and he was a bit worried about this Cade kid.

After the awkward start, Jim thought he and Natalie had handled the ball of energy that was their son pretty well. It helped that she'd been through this before and knew what to expect.

Now, it seemed to be time to say goodbye and Nolan didn't seem too fussed. Jim was both relieved and a little sad.

"You know where you're going?"

"Dad, I'm not an idiot," Nolan sighed.

"No, you're not," Natalie agreed. He really wasn't. His parents weren't shabby, either. "You're going to be just fine."

Well, this was it. It had been fun, but Isabelle had to admit she was okay with this experiment in parenthood ending already. Even if Yukon was cute.

"You're going to be okay, right?"

The girl looked amused. "Duh. Are you?"

Because who didn't enjoy having children with their roommates? No one, that's who.

"Pretty sure she'll be fine." If Raleigh knew anything about Isabelle, it was that.

McCoy'd spent a shockingly nice weekend with his daughter and wife. His maybe-future-daughter, and his not-at-all wife. He had to keep that straight in his head. Jayden was bright. And charming. And she had a good head on her shoulders. It was hard to believe that Dr. Lahiri had anything to do with her, but she did have a weird sense of humor that must have come from her mother.

They had both come to see her off at the portal. McCoy saw mini-Jim seeing off some kid, too--he was so, so concerned for that child. But he wasn't going to get involved, and he had his own bundle of joy to be worried about.

"Well," he said, nodding at Jayden, as if that summed it up.

Surprisingly, Mindy had enjoyed her weekend as well. Leonard was cranky and brusque and acted like somebody's grandfather from time to time, but apparently he knew how to smile, and he was a pretty good fake dad.

"Okay, so you're going to tell your parents where you were immediately," she reminded Jayden, "and I just bought you all these clothes and stuff, so it won't be so bad when we ground you."

Stiles was definitely caught between sad and relieved right now. He was so not ready to be a parent but Derek had been puppy facing at Claudia all day. That wasn't okay.

And, okay, he had to admit he thought it was nice having her around too.

"You ready to go?" he asked. "Your parents have probably got the whole state looking for you right now."

Claudia nodded. "I'll say I'm sorry."

After she's done being smothered with affection, that is.

"I'm sure your other Mama and Daddy miss you," Celia was hedging as she led Margaret by the hand to the portal. "The Mama with the darker hair, right?"

Re: Delay the inevitable!

[identity profile] bornachallenger.livejournal.com 2014-02-17 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yes," Margaret said solemnly, clinging to her mother's hand. "Mama with black hair, and Daddy. How come Daddy wasn't here?"

For as weird as it was having a kid with Derek (especially given the whole Phoenix Force thing), Kitty really liked Petra, and wouldn't exactly mind if she could stick around longer.

"I'd say to stay out of trouble but I think we both know the likelihood of that," she said. X-Men and all.

And then there was Lexi, and Kitty had maybe seriously considered just not letting her go through the portal, though common sense won out there. Hopefully Clint knew his girlfriend was going to be in serious need of cling time after this.

If she was walking slow so this took longer, well... shut up.

So on the one hand, Dom had to say goodbye to Luca, and that was sad -- Luca seemed like a cool little dude.

But if his theory was right and going through the children's portal would get him home ... well, that wasn't so sad at all. He needed to get back to the right universe as much as any of the kids did.

He paced nervously, fidgeting with his coat as he waited for Gert and Luca to close up at the diner.

This crowd made the hotel suite look like a deserted open street, but Pluma was holding herself together. With strain, but that still counted.

"I didn't burn anyone all weekend," she said brightly. "I didn't even eat any flamingos."

Flamingos were so pretty.

Angela wasn't going to miss this reality.

This town was boring, her father was obviously uncomfortable looking after her, and her dad was a real douche.

She shouldered her way past Alec when he stiffly offered her a hug and stomped through the portal.

Re: Through the portal!

[identity profile] catlikeblueeyes.livejournal.com 2014-02-17 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Gabe had revealed his identity to a few people, but not to his dad, and he didn't see the point in changing that. He did spot Alec in the crowd of people, looking uncharacteristically awkward, and it made Gabe uncomfortable -- he wasn't one of those teenagers who put his parents on pedestals, but that just wasn't the dad he was familiar with.

He waited until his dad looked preoccupied with the blonde girl with him and slipped through the portal quietly.
