The Devil's Nest, Friday Evening

Allie hadn't planned on being late to work, but on the walk from her apartment to the bar she swore she heard the guttural groans and shuffling steps of rabids in the shadows. It was only after she'd walked the entire town and found nothing that she finally headed to the bar. She'd make another through patrol after the bar closed.

For now she was just going to sit and keep her eye focused on the door.

It was Friday night and Kitty was just bored enough to head out to the bar where she actually had to pay for her drinks, though seeing Allie was a definite plus to that.

"Hey there," Kitty greeted her as she came in.

"Hey yourself," Allie replied, letting herself relax. "Aren't you in the wrong bar?"

"I have to check out the competition every once in a while. I think it's probably part of being a good businesswoman, or something?" she tried. "Or I wanted to say hi, whichever."

Allie laughed. "I'm sure Eric will not have any sort of problem with Tiny taking your money. And personally I'm always happy to see you, so it's a win for me."

And she could use the distraction honestly.

"Glad to hear it," Kitty smiled, taking a seat. "So how've you been?"

"The same mostly. Although whatever bit of weirdness the island has been doing lately is starting to get old," she admitted.

"Which part?" she asked dryly. She was with you on the 'getting old' thing.

It was scary they had to specify. "I can deal with random conversations happening in the lounge, even though people aren't there," Allie sighed. "But walking though the streets, hearing rabids in the shadows? Not cool."

"Um. Just... voices, or do we actually have those now?" Someone was going to be phasing her way home later.

Someone was going to have a vampire escort if Allie had anything to say about it.

"I went all over town and couldn't find anything. Even when it sounded like they were right in front of me." Which was more frustrating then reassuring. "For the moment I think we're okay. But I'll check again when I leave here."

"Okay, good. Because the voices and stuff reappearing and disappearing and people being replaced by other people is enough, we don't need another thing right now." If she said that insistently enough, maybe Fandom would listen!

It's so funny how she thought that would work.

"People being replaced by other people?" Allie asked. "That doesn't sound good."

"A girl in my class is now a boy from an alternate universe, Hannibal's Hanna now, according to my radio notes I guess Priestly's a girl named Sheba now... I think it's some alternate universe switchup, which happens-" Kitty came from Marvel. "-but with everything else, it's weird."

"And it's not over by Monday morning." Allie really preferred weekend weirdness.

"At what point does it stop being just weird and we when do we start to worry?" For the record, Allie was going to worry, at least until she'd touched base with a few people to make sure they hadn't been swapped out or changed some way.

"Honestly, I have no idea," Kitty said. "There's been so much random stuff happening the last month that I don't know if the island's just throwing a hissy fit or how everything ties together or what. It's frustrating."

"So it's stay armed, check in on people and hope like hell we don't wake up in some creepy dungeon?" Because it's not like that hadn't happened before.

"If it helps, I doubt it's the dungeon guy again. This is a long time to leave us waiting and irritated."

"I honestly can't decide if that's a good thing or a bad thing," Allie admitted.

"Both have heir pros and cons- mainly because ugh, yet another bad guy- but in this case I think it's good. Because the dungeon guy played with us long enough to learn more about us, and he'd probably be even worse this time around. He can stay gone." Not that Kitty had any experience with this sort of thing.

"Yeah, I don't need to relive the night I died yet again." Because once was enough. "So oddly enough, I guess I'm rooting for a new bad guy."

"Ah, I remember the good old days, when I thought I was moving somewhere without bad guys," Kitty said wistfully. "So... the first like two days I lived here."

"Luckily I had a little more time to adjust," Allie sighed. "I think the first truly weird thing I had to deal with was my mother turning up on my doorstep."

"You're lucky there. That that was the first, I mean," Kitty said. "It seems like every single weird thing that happens, I get hit with it." She paused. "Or Clint does."

"And how does he cope with it?" Because Kitty seemed remarkably well-adjusted.

"Depends on what it is. The big stuff he seems to handle pretty well. The littler weekend stuff, that he sometimes hides out from, or gets cranky about, but I think that's probably normal. I think stuff happens to annoy us."

"I get that," Allie nodded. "I usually try to hide out when that stuff happens. It helps minimize the embarrassment on Monday morning."

"Totally understandable. I'd rather just be annoyed and get through my normal day so I can keep telling myself at least everyone's embarrassed," Kitty reasoned. "The bigger stuff is I guess when I hide out."

Because she was a sulker.

"Well the next time it happens," Because there would be a next time no doubt. "I promise I'll come by with donuts."

"And that is why you are the best," Kitty said with a smile.

Allie shrugged and ducked her head. "So what else has been happening? Anything that doesn't make you worry?"

"Almost everything makes me worry," Kitty said, and she wasn't entirely joking. "Went on spring break with the school. Got some good relaxation time in. Oh! I picked up a bunch of books there if you want some new stuff."
