Break Week, before the newbies showed up, needing their tiny little minds eased with lots of alcohol. So Kenzi had a special up.

Where Kenzi is thrilled to serve you. No, really.

After the talking he had done that night, Seifer didn't want to be in his apartment alone, and going to talk to Rinoa and Squall probably would have been just as bad.

So, having figured out what day it was, Seifer went to the one place who had the one person guaranteed to get him in a better mood.

"Hey, Kenz, just a soda for me." Tonight was not a drinking night. He realized that much.

Awww. Kenzi would be touched, seriously! And a little worried about Seifer, too.

"Just a soda? No such thing. You want lemon or lime or orange slices with your bubbly carbonated beverage?"

Seifer sighed, and debated his choices. "Lime, definitely lime. And why are we watching this stupid show? I could tell you who won already. At least back where I was."

Kenzi was totally ready to sing Lime in the Coconut while making Seifer's totally easy drink.

"So tell me! I wanna lay some last minute bets, clean up with the bookies!"

And Seifer was going to laugh while she did it.

"Sisaundra totally cleaned up. Kat should have won, and was robbed of the win."

He had no problem telling this information.

"Ahhhh." Kenzi slid his glass over to him, then grabbed her phone and hit a couple of the betting sites. "Robbed by the judges, or by the audience?"

"Both. The whole Celine Dion thing dazzled everyone, and they keep putting her last. By the time voting happens, everyone had forgotten about Kat."

Seifer took a drink before he spoke again. "Astrid and I voted for her though, not that it helped."

"Astrid?" Kenzi asked, head coming up in perky curiosity. "Wait wait. Do I remember this name as a girlfriendy person?"

"Um, no. She didn't go here," Seifer started. And was pleasantly surprised that it really didn't hurt that much to talk about her.

"I met her at UCLA during my sophomore year. Took me about six months of study dates to realize that we were actually dating."

"Oh, dude." Not laughing. Not laughing.

Okay, yup, laughing at you, Seifer.

"How long were you guys a thing?"

"It's not my fault! I was convinced we had the flakiest study group in the school because they either never showed up, or had to leave within an hour of me getting there."

Which meant she had been pretty damn smart.

"A little over four years. Just before New Years." And now he was wishing it was Jack in the glass, not soda.

Kenzi winced on his behalf, and pulled over the bar peanuts, earning a glare from Tino which she ignored.

"Suck much?" She nudged the bowl at him. "She not want to move to crazy town with you?"

Seifer really wanted to ask for that drink now, and was hoping it didn't show too much on his face. Instead, he just grabbed some peanuts from the bowl and tried to stack them to have something to do with his hands.

"No, not that. There was a car accident." And yeah, that was all he was going to say right now.

"Oh, wow. I'm sorry." No way to ask about it directly, but.. "If you need to talk about it, that's what I'm here for. And the booze. If you want that."

"Thanks, Kenzi." It felt really weird to actually talk to people about things. Well, people who weren't Astrid.

"I'm actually trying something new. Besides booze and property destruction."

"But property destruction is one of the four stages of healing!"

Seriously. She had it written down somewhere!

Seifer chuckled and shook his head. "I'm trying to avoid the bills and criminal records this time around. Besides, apparently talking helps or something."

"So that's how you're handling it?" Kenzi paused, and said, "And now I want to either give you ice cream or a hug. Or both. Usually when I'm doing the serious-listening thing, it's for Bo."

"Don't worry, I'll make up for it somehow. Maybe when I guest in your class."

He totally would too. With great glee.

"Ohh, I see how it is. You're going to undermine my non-existent authority, aren't you?"

Seifer had to pause and let that sink in, because the mere idea was mind boggling.

"Kenzi, an authority figure. Isn't that a sign of the apocolypse?"

"Pfftt, we already had that. And I almost got a shotgun out of it, too."

Darn that sheriff and his eagle-eyes.

She started giggling at the whole concept though, and said, "It still counts if they're all alive at the end of the course, right? Even if they're traumatized?"

"Again, I'm going to point at Maddox. He will be my example for anything ever involving teaching."

It was still the strangest thing ever, and he was the guy who had routinely found money inside of monster kills growing up.

"I think as long as they don't have to be committed to a psych ward long term, you should be okay."

The Voice is on. So are the hockey playoffs. Kenzi is not bitter about that.
