Derek didn't think he could call in 'sick' to work considering what he was. Also, it was probable a good idea to have at least some time apart form Stiles, right? Right!

Which was why he was watching the clock all night.

Kitty knew she had to get around to this eventually, so she figured she could at least pop in to get this over with and hopefully leave without a problem.

"Hey," she said, coming up to the bar.

"Hey," Derek replied, giving her a wary look.

"So," she said, "I just wanted to say I'm sorry for last week. I've been going through a lot of stuff and it wasn't fair to take it out on you, so... sorry."

Derek gave her a look like he was lost on the whole 'people actually apologizing to him' thing. Because, well, look at his life. "Okay. Apology accepted."

"Okay, good," she said with a little smile. "...That was pretty much the whole reason to come in here."

Derek nodded slowly. "Have you talked to Stiles?"

[throughaphase]

Kitty shook her head. "I sent him a thing for graduation and he sent a text to thank me. Otherwise I haven't talked to him for a while."

"Alright," Derek replied with a shrug. "Did that group thing help you or something?"

[throughaphase]

"I mean, it did, but it's only the first week," she said. "I just kind of got to talking to a couple people. It did a lot of good."

"That helps sometimes," Derek replied dryly. Though his therapist was a serial killer. So.

[throughaphase]

"It really does," she said, entirely seriously. "How's that working out for you?"

Not that she thought she'd get anything but a 'fine,' but still.

"Fine." LOOK AT THAT.

[throughaphase]

It was like she was psychic!

"Glad that's working out for you then," she said.

"Better than before." Look at that sharing.

[throughaphase]

"Good," Kitty smiled. "You cooperate, you listen to what they tell you, and it seems to work."

[justlurkinghere]

"Sometimes," Derek replied slowly. "It's mostly just talking."

A lot.

"That's part of the cooperating part," Kitty said. "The first time I ever went I sat there and refused to talk. Amazingly that didn't help anything."

"...but that's what you're paying them to do."

Derek was just adorable.

"Yeah, I was sort of forced to go?" Kitty admitted.

And someone had been extra sassy in those days.

"Sounds helpful." Or not at all. Either or.

"I got over myself," Kitty shrugged.

[justlurkinghere]

"Like this time," Derek suggested.

Kitty tilted her head. "I'm not sure I get that."

Derek gave her a Look for that. "Are you ordering a drink?"

"Nah. I should probably go before I decide on whether I should feel insulted or not," she admitted. Really, there weren't any good ways to take that comment, especially when you were trying to share.

"Feel however you want," Derek replied dryly. "Don't pretend not to get it."

Because Derek was a surly mofo a lot of the time. Ask Stiles! Oh, the fights... The fights.

"No, I really don't get it," Kitty said, and he wasn't helping her not be irritated all over again but she was trying.

Derek rolled his eyes hard at somehow being the emotionally aware one. It was a novel experience. "You got over yourself on whatever issues you had about me keeping something private. That's why you're apologizing, right?"

[throughaphase]

Kitty stared at him. "You know, the reason I went to the therapy thing is because I didn't think I had any support here outside of Clint. I have problems, no one cares, but I'm the one always in the middle whenever everyone else is having any trouble. It's not great to feel cut off. That's why I got upset, and I told you why I was apologizing when I apologized."

"Well good. Maybe it'll help you pick less disappointing friends," Derek snapped.

[throughaphase]

"If this is your reaction to me wanting help, then yeah. Maybe it will," she said, completely seriously, and turned for the door. At least she couldn't say she didn't try.

"This is you guilting me, not asking for help," Derek snapped. Because he made all the fights worse! Also, he was an expert at guilt.

[throughaphase]

"No, it's me being honest," Kitty said, stopping where she was. "I made a true statement, you decided I'm guilting you. If you're feeling guilty, take some time to wonder if it's because I'm not a little bit right."

"I never said you were succeeding in it."

[throughaphase]

Yeah, she should have known that was coming. "You really are a terrible friend," she said, and this time she really did leave.
