The Devil's Nest, Friday Evening

Allie got into work to find Tiny barricaded behind the bar while four gremlins played Cards Against Humanity in the lounge.

Apparently it was going to be one of those kind of nights.

Kate was still in town, and while she was intending to head home in a bit, there was always time to check in at the Devil's Nest, especially since she'd pretty much been failing at that all summer.

"Aww, you're not Eric," she noted as she made her way to the bar. She didn't seem overly upset about this, though. "I guess I'll just have a green apple soda, then."

Since Tiny was involved in getting the latest round of drinks for the gremlins, Allie decided to take care of the customer that was less likely to bite. "Nope," she said, sliding the soda across the bar. "I'm Allison. And you're a new face."

"I don't know, I feel like a pretty old face," Kate mused. She toasted allie with her new soda. "Hi. Kate Gregson, Fandom High class of 2011. Currently teaching."

Allie returned Kate's toast with the bottle of True Blood she'd been sipping. "Oh? What class? Some of them sound pretty interesting."

"Whatever 101," Kate offered up with a wry smile. "Exactly what it sounds like, by the way. I basically just teach random things. New thing every week. We've made chocolate and learned telling fake diamonds from real ones. That kind of thing."

"Useful stuff to know in the right circumstances, I suppose," Allie said after considering it for a moment. "Throw in how to kill a random monster and they'll be all set for life on the island."

Kate tilted her head thoughtfully. "I think I'm leaving that to other people, really," she said. "I mean, I was trained in stabbing things by basically the finest swordsman of his world, but it's not really my area."

"In that case, maybe I'll have to teach a class next summer if I'm still here." She gestured towards where her katana was resting against the bar. "It's kind of my thing. I suppose it goes with the whole vampire and violence thing."

Kate paused as she took in both the katana, as well as the True Blood. "You know, I should probably be more taken aback by the whole vampire reveal," she noted. "But I just can't be shocked anymore."

She had a long and storied history with vampires.

"I am not a shitty uncle," Eric said, holding his phone up as he came into the bar.

"Shittiest uncle," Kate informed him. Yes, even though she was hopping over for a mandatory hug. "Sorry, my creepy family, my rules."

Eric hugged her back tightly. "Tell me I'm at least the best looking shittiest uncle."

"Oh, easily," Kate nodded, peering up at him. "It's like your one redeeming quality. I guess that and showing up should save you from being disowned."

"I have other redeeming qualities," Eric declared. "I can rip someone's head off..."

Fancy.

"So can my dog," Kate retorted as she pulled back. "Granted that's only with dolls. Also, eww, Eric."

"Viking," Eric said with a little grin. "Plus, amazing party trick."

Eric, no.

Kate raised her eyebrows.

"Okay, note to self: don't put Eric on the guest list for my 21st birthday party."

Not that she had any party plans yet to begin with. It was two months away, anyway.

Eric smiled at Allie. "Glad to see you back to being vampire again."

Allie rolled her eyes. "I'd like to forget that ever happened. But Jack has pictures."

"I'll be sure to frame one and put it behind the bar," he said, smirking. "For Tiny."

"I'd say you're mean and cruel but you'd probably take that as a compliment," she sighed.

"Yep," Eric said smugly.

Allie's eyes fell out of her head and rolled across the bar. "Remind me again why I like you?"

"I pay you money so you don't have to live on a park bench?"

"More like so I don't sleep in the dirt under the park bench. But yeah, you have a point." Allie smiled wryly. "You know, you'd get along well with my brother."
