Cafe Fina [Monday Afternoon]

Despite still feeling sour about what he'd done over the weekend, Hatter had come into work because he'd needed the distraction. The staff wanted to be killed in on the whereabouts of their boss over the weekend but he'd shut them down with a look and a snarl. Rare thing so it shut them down fairly quickly. Hatter took up his spot and went to write up the tea specials but then stopped. Maybe hold off on those for a bit.

Smokey Margarita

So yes, today was going to be an alcoholic day, it seemed. Hatter wasn't the best drink mixer in the world but he knew his way around mixed drinks and if his was laced with something from his special stash, well, no one else had to know that, did they?

He probably wouldn't tell anyway.

Enjoy the restaurant on your own!

He's in and while his mood might not be great, he'll serve you drinks and be civil! Mostly.

Hannibal was on his way back to Baltimore, but when he saw the sign he couldn't resist stopping in. "No tea today?"

"Not today," Hatter said, glancing up and shaking his head. "I'm afraid I was a prat this past weekend and my tea is taking a bit of time off because of it. I thought it'd be safer."

Hannibal put that together with what he'd heard on the radio. "Ah. Yes, probably for the best. This weekend you weren't boring, at least," he pointed out. Be careful what you wished for?

"Quite right. And I got bloody slapped for it." Though, he honestly didn't mind that too much. He'd deserved it. "Irene managed to hug whatever that was out of me so I basically owe my continued existence to her."

Sure, someone else might have hugged him but maybe not. He shook his head. "How did this weekend go for you?"

"You should get her something very nice," Hannibal advised. "I spent most of it in the library, trying to find a way to stop it."

"She's a rather hard woman to shop for, I think," he replied but it wasn't a bad idea. He'd sort that one into the maybe pile. "So, you and your team were the ones to figure out the whole hugging thing?"

"With some help from the library, yes. It kept throwing books about hugging at us." Metaphorically on his part, at least.

"I suppose that's a better solution than shooting everyone," Hatter said, nodding. "I would hate to have another shirt ruined by a bullet. Such a pet peeve."

"Does that happen to you often?" Hannibal asked.

"Well."

Hatter paused to consider that question before shaking his head.

"Not lately."

"So either people here have had less reason to, or you've learned to be more careful." Hannibal gave him a small smile. "In either case, well done."

"And I'm hoping it stays that way," he quipped with a snicker. "Not a pleasant thing, getting shot. It hurts."

"I imagine it does," Hannibal agreed. "Still, at least you're here to tell the tale."

"It takes more than a bullet...and an apparently evil carnival to keep me down," Hatter told him, nodding. "Though, I can't really imagine what would have happened had hugging not worked. What next?"

"We would have kept looking, I suppose." Hannibal shrugged.

"Persistent lot, aren't you?" Hatter asked, smiling a bit. "Not willing to juts admit retreat, huh?"

"I'm very bad at giving up," Hannibal answered. "I suspect the same is true about many here."

"Well I, for one, am thankful for that because I didn't want to spend the rest of my life as a tea poisoning madman," Hatter said. "I'm enough of a madman on my own, thank you."

"Everybody remotely interesting is mad in some way," Hannibal answered. "At least this way your tea can have repeat customers."

"I'm probably going to have to build back up to serving tea," Hatter admitted. "At least to certain people. I don't know anyone getting scared off because they think I've poisoned their drinks."

"Probably a wise decision," Hannibal allowed. Personally, he would never do that to the food (or tea, in this case), but you never knew with other people.

"But, if you'd like some tea today, I can of course make you a cup," Hatter told him. "I wouldn't completely deny a service that people want."

"No, thank you. I'm on my way home at the moment, and I wouldn't want to drive with it." Because Bentley. "I was only curious. But I shall definitely take you up on that at some other time."

"I'd offer you one in a take home cup but...tea should never be enjoyed like that," Hatter said, shaking his head. "Next time, then. I'll keep a space warm for you. And I'll make sure the tea is extra exotic that day."

"I look forward to it." Hannibal smiled and nodded. "I'll see you later, then."
