The Beach, Sunday Morning

It had been warm a fair bit longer than Edward was used to - by now back home would be rain-soaked and miserable, ambling quickly towards cold. He supposed that was what the Americas were like, then: warmer than they ought to be, not that he was complaining. In fact, he'd had half a mind to take advantage of the heat while he still could, but matters and letters had gotten in the way.

Of course, when he finally did find the time to go to the beach for a swim, there were threatening clouds piling on up ahead. They didn't seem to do the temperature much harm, however; he decided, after a moment, that he could chance the rain this once. After all, the clouds could be a sign that the weather was turning for autumn sooner rather than later.

He tugged his shirt off over his head and rushed into the water, pushing through his own shivering - it had gotten colder than the last time he'd done this. Still, it was nice, and soon enough he was splashing about, making good time, swimming circles and letting his muscles have a workout.

Aye, it'd been a good idea - as long as those clouds didn't do nothing.

Nathan's trips from preserve to dorms tended to take him by the beach whenever he felt the urge to turn the short walk into a longer one.

He wasn't at all surprised to see someone else out in the water so early and he could almost guess who it was. But, he stayed up near the shore, letting the water rush over his feet while he watched.

Edward's senses told him of Nathan's presence before he even bothered to turn around and squint over towards the beach-- catching a hint of something that had to be sunlight in the corner of his eyes.

Still not quite awake yet, he guessed - that's when this sort of thing happened.

His feet found the ground in a shallower patch of water a moment later. "Oi, Nathan!" he called, all good-nature.

"Morning," Nathan said, giving Edward a wave. "I'm beginning to wonder if you live in the water, you know."

Edward grinned, hopping up on a nearby rock like he was something resembling a cat. "Only on Sundays," he called over. "Having one of your outside days, Nate?"

"For the moment," Nathan confirmed with a nod. "I was on my way back to the dorms to pick up a few things and maybe cook some breakfast but I'm sure I'll be back outside by tonight. You know me, I can't stay away."

"Better be careful, then," Edward said, staring up at the sky. "Might get a bit ugly tonight."

Nathan glanced up at the big clouds in the sky and frowned. "You might be right. Rain doesn't really bother me but it can make sleeping a little uncomfortable. And slippery."

And he'd just washed his clothes so he didn't want everything getting muddy immediately.

"Maybe I'll make it a night inside the dorms. I can tolerate those sometimes."

"Your roommate must be happy," Edward commented, hopping from one rock to the next until he was nearer to the beach and he didn't need to shout quite as much.

"Maybe?" Nathan shrugged. "I've seen him maybe three times since we both got here. The only reason I know he's still there is there's still some clothing and other items around. Maybe he throws parties when I'm gone."

"See, now one really does have to wonder what illicit dealings go on in your room," Edward mused, hopping into the water again so he could take his last few steps towards where Nathan was. "Dare we ask?"

"Maybe if you're able to track him down," Nathan said, snickering a bit. "He told me he doesn't sleep so perhaps he just goes out and finds parties on his own. Does this island have an underground, maybe?"

"I've no idea, but if he doesn't sleep, he should meet my roommate," Edward said.

Look, just because he and Barry were sort of friendly now didn't mean he couldn't rag on the man.

"I'm actually not sure how well Soren and Barry would get along," he said, rubbing his chin. "It'd either be a very interesting friendship or Soren would crush him."

He wasn't sure how deep Soren's patience went.

Isabelle had started her day out in the necropolis in Idris. And now she was back on Fandom, to finally stay for a longer while. Her mourning clothes were stuffed in the bag slung over her shoulder, and the detour on the beach was just an excuse to carry her heels in hand while her bare feet dug into the sand with each step.

Or, she was just delaying going to the dorms for whatever reason. Whichever. Her reason for being here had very little bearing on the way she squinted towards the water when she realized she wasn't the only person here.

Edward had slipped into an easy rhythm, swimming his way about. Isabelle, too, lit up at the edge of his senses before he actually saw her, a testament to his dreams following him about.

He caught her eye and turned, swimming towards the beach itself.

Isabelle would have been absolutely certain she lit up at the edge of everyone's senses. But that was just her ego, and had very little basis in reality.

She raised one slim hand for a little wave when he turned.

Not quite like she did on Edward's right now, though the metaphorical light had dulled but for some odd patterns he couldn't make any sense of, and thus dismissed.

"Morning," he called. "What brings you here?"

"My feet," Isabelle quipped. She even held up the shoes in her other hand in a demonstrative fashion. "Also, it seemed like it would be quiet."

Which was probably closer to a real reason than that first one.

"Sorry about mucking that one up," Edward said, though he didn't sound entirely repentant. "It gets quite busy out here, as a matter of fact."

"Does it?" she asked, with a deliberate tilt of her head. "I don't come here much." Not even in the summer, because that might have messed with the paleness she had going on. "And you don't sound very apologetic."

"It is a free beach," Edward noted. "The patch 'round the other side of the island might be quieter, if you're actually in search of some solitude."

Isabelle shrugged, and apparently that topic was closed with that, as far as she was concerned. She didn't know what she was in search of, anyway.

"How are things, Mr. Kenway?"

"Well enough," Edward said easily. "Getting settled in my classes, missing some odd event down at the pub I'm not sure I understand..."

"Odd event?" Isabelle questioned. Because she had to.

And also because this was Fandom and it could be either genuinely odd, or just unfamiliar to him in particular.

"Quick date? Swift... I'm not sure," Edward clarified. "Nathan was talking some about it."
