The Perk- Thursday afternoon

Kitty got back from New York a little early today- it was so much easier to do this when none of the staff was actively trying to kill each other and the students weren't fighting- and decided there had to be coffee before she inevitably went to bug Clint or something. So she went to the Perk, got a peppermint mocha, and decided to sit and people watch for a while.

The first Taylor Swift song wasn't too out of the ordinary. The second one immediately following it was a little strange, but it was catchy, so who cared. Then the third one started, and Kitty was beginning to realize that she might be stuck here until whoever was in charge of the Perk's music got off their Taylor Swift kick because she couldn't leave in the middle of a song.

[I need to play fluffy things today. Play fluffy things with me.]

"So this is going to be trapped in my brain for the rest of the day," Irene greeted her after getting her own drink, rolling her eyes towards a speaker.

"That might be a good thing," Kitty mused. "It's putting me in a great mood."

"It is delightfully bouncy, if a touch repetitive," Irene ventured.

"I think it's going to be forever bouncing around in my head and I'm totally okay with that," she said. "I think I'm being brainwashed by a sound system."

Irene cocked her head, frowning a little. "Who is it? Not that I'm in a rush to load up iTunes with her, but...you know. Out of curiosity."

She was going to end up downloading her whole discography. Don't lie, Irene.

"Taylor Swift. I maybe already hit up iTunes on my phone while I've been here," she admitted.

"...the little thing that Kanye West was so cruel to?"

Oh, Irene, with your dated pop culture references.

"...Oh, right, that happened," Kitty said, blinking. "Not big on her over in England, I'm guessing?"

Irene held a hand up and wobbled it back and forth. "Not especially with my set, no. But it's more that I'm not used to it being the future, yet," she admitted. "Which has never gotten less weird to say."

"Did I know you're not from now?" Kitty asked. The time travel stuff was not even a concern.

"It's not by much, don't feel bad," Irene said, just going ahead and helping herself to a seat. "I left London around Christmas in 2012, and then Pakistan around February 2013. So I've got almost two years of pop culture that I missed out on."

"Oh, that's gotta be annoying. To just be a liiittle bit off?" she said.

"Just enough that pop culture seems bizarre," Irene sighed. "I mean, more than it already is. And it's a little alarming how much pumpkin spice seems to have grown in popularity in the space of two years."

"We as a culture are all gonna develop a spontaneous pumpkin allergy in a couple years," Kitty sighed, and held up her coffee. "Which is why peppermint is even better than usual every year."

"I like the gingerbread thingies," Irene said agreeably. "But maybe at least if we all become deathly ill at the sight of pumpkins, we can get Starbucks in a class action suit. I feel fairly confident in saying it's all their fault."

"I'd be down with that but I wouldn't want to make Starbucks mad at me," Kitty said. "I need them too much."

"You could wear a disguise in there after the suit," Irene suggested helpfully. "They'd never realize it was you to be mad at, when you visited."

"And give them fake names. I mean, they get it wrong all the time anyway," Kitty said. "Apparently no one thinks my name is real."
