Caritas, Saturday Evening

Caritas had a spell on it that prevented violence, right? Right. So, that was why Mike had been here for the better part of the day. He just hadn't really felt like he was in the best frame of mind to be out playing hero. So... Yeah, holding down the fort at the bar had been a perfectly valid choice. At least it kept him in one piece and didn't fray his nerves more badly than it needed to.

Plus, after it seemed like things were going to be returning to normal, he figured people were going to be wanting to get their booze on. And he could help with that.

There wasn't anything on the specials board, but if you had a story about surviving this week's drama – or had just survived it? Chances were you were getting a significant discount.

"Drink drink drink drink," Kenzi chanted, sitting at the bar. "Employee discount and all."

"Anything in particular?"

Mike understood how the situation was, but he was still going to need you to be a little more specific, Kenzi.

Kenzi gave him a bewildered look. She held up her fingers, and counted them off: "Drink. Drink. Drink. Drink. Like that." She dropped her hand. "I'm not picky, just things that go well together and will get the taste of other people's pain out of my head."

That was math, not a drink order, but he'd let it slide this time. He turned to fix her something vaguely like that.

"That bad, huh?"

"It could have been worse," Kenzi admitted, "but only if I'd been hurting anybody other than me. I had Dead Chick in my head missing her husband and panicking about him and trying to march me over the Causeway to find him non-stop for a day and a half. You didn't get grabbed, did you?"

"Nope. Lucked out, I guess." Unlike... a lot of people, so it wasn't as if he was going to gloat about that, or anything. "Seems like it was pretty tough. But, it's over now, right?"

God, he hoped so.

"Should be soon?" Kenzi hoped. Oh man, how she hoped. "Bo said there was a plan. And some spells. And volunteers. Good enough for me, you know?"

"Well, as long as there's a plan," Mike said. He slid the drink over to her. "Shit turning out okay is really all that matters."

"And then forgetting what the shit was," Kenzi agreed, and toasted him. "You are a gentleman and a co-worker." GLUG!

Alana couldn't deal with having had that thing in her head for days on end. Cliched as it was, she thought she might never be clean again.

After a very long very hot shower,she had pulled on her baggiest shirt and jeans and gone to the bar. It was a good night to drink herself into a stupor.
