The Perk, Wednesday Noon

This second Wednesday marked the first time Obi-Wan had felt anywhere near settled on this island. Perhaps it was because - outside of minor disputes in class - he and Anakin hadn't really had an encounter since Friday. But frankly, he wasn't here to think about that. Rather, he was looking for a distraction.

He settled into a seat at the Perk with a nice cup of tea. He'd picked a bag at random; tea flavors were both similar and entirely different on every planet he landed on, and he wouldn't make a fuss about it until he figured out which ones were actually drinkable.

So far, this one was fine. He drank it slowly, as he wasn't exactly in a hurry. Fandom's locals were almost all human, but they were still an interesting crowd. Sitting here allowed him the opportunity to people-watch. As the day went on, he found himself ordering subsequent cups, at least until he found a flavor that was completely and utterly terrible.

"I am unless you ask anyone around here," Tony replied. "Apparently I've had a few precursors."

"That seems... awkward," Obi-Wan volunteered.

"No one's slapped me yet, so I think I'm in the clear."

"Any idea what your precursors got up to otherwise?" Obi-Wan asked, curiously. "I'd find myself wondering."

... Well, not entirely. Anakin's timeline's Obi-Wan - the one who thought it smart to send the boy to this island - had seemed close enough to being exactly like him so far there didn't seem much use in asking.

"...have you heard the radio yet?" Tony asked. He was going somewhere with this, honest!

"I can't say I was particularly intrigued by it," Obi-Wan said, touching his beard. "Why?"

"You can listen to old broadcasts." Or have your AI do that and give you all the juicy details. "Which is how I know one of the past me was my age and the other was a teenager."

[saddeserthermit]

"You're listening to gossip about your past selves?" Obi-Wan summarized. "Every time I think this island can't get more ridiculous."

"It's better than going in blind," Tony insisted. Even if the gossip was hilarious.

[saddeserthermit]

"Perhaps," Obi-Wan said. "Of course, going in blind, one can remind others more thoroughly that you are not your predecessors."

[imafuturist]

Tony had to snort at that. "Or lead to disaster. I'll admit to rubbing a few people the wrong way."

THEY TRIED TO KILL YOU, TONY. THAT'S AN UNDERSTATEMENT.

"Are you a man with a lot of enemies, then?" Obi-Wan asked. "That would be inconvenient."

"Sad side effect of the world we live in." Full of crazy superpowers. And Tony's ego.

[saddeserthermit]

"Is it?" Obi-Wan said. "I haven't been here long."

[imafuturist]

"I'm still passing judgement about here, but I know that lesson well enough back home."

[saddeserthermit]

"I find if you simply take the time to sit down with your would-be enemy, there is usually room for negotiation," Obi-Wan said.

Sometimes aggressive negotiation, but still.

Uh huh. Suuuure.

Tony's eyebrows shot up at that, keenly reminded of Hank before the whole... Yellow Jacket thing. "And if they're more interested in a fight?"

[saddeserthermit]

"Then you simply have armed negotiations," Obi-Wan said pleasantly.

"More my style!"

[saddeserthermit]

"I personally find it droll to lead with that," Obi-Wan said. "But you must act as your style demands, of course."

[imafuturist]

"You have got to be the most infuriating ethics teacher around," Tony said, failing to smother a grin.

[saddeserthermit]

"Spoken like a man who has yet to meet my co-teacher on a bad day," Obi-Wan said.

... Anakin would totally agree with Tony, though.

They were a bit cut from the same cloth, those two.

"What is it you do when not teaching teenagers?"

[saddeserthermit]

"I take care of my pets and I meditate," Obi-Wan said vaguely. "And sometimes I drink tea."

[imafuturist]

Tony had to stare at him because now Obi-Wan was turning into a terrifying T'Challa/Hank hybrid in his head.

"Pets?"
