Caritas, Post-3MD, Saturday Evening

Once the dates were done, Mike slipped back to his rightful place behind the bar. It was time to serve some drinks to people, whether to soothe them over mini dates gone badly, or to give them some liquid courage to suggest following things up somewhere a little bit more private.

Ezra stuck around at the bar even after the dates, suprising no one.

He got himself a nice drink, then sat at the bar, looking around.

Jalian grinned. "Hello. Did you have good dates?"

"Reasonably good," he replied, greeting her with a grin right back. "Hello, Jalian. How were yours?"

"Friendly," she answered. "Most people here are very friendly, though. It's hard to get used to."

"Well, the good thing is, you'll probably have plenty of time to get used to it," he noted. "Because I don't think it's likely to stop any time soon."

"I prefer to stay on my guard at least a little," Jalian answered."The people here don't act very safely, either." She grinned. "It makes it easier to get money, but I worry for the nice ones."

"I don't. I think the nice ones can handle themselves." That, or he had a limited amount of caring for other people to go around, and he'd just about filled all the slots there already. "They'll be fine."

"I hope so." Jalian cared for a lot of people, but she was all too well-acquainted with the fact that she couldn't save everyone.

"Did you enjoy the boat?"

"It was nice," he said. "The novelty of the seventies fashions ran out pretty fast, though, and I missed having my phone."

"Everybody says how different the clothes were, but they didn't look very different to me." Jalian shrugged. "But I didn't grow up with these fashions, either."

Ezra tilted his head. "Where are you from, anyway?"

He hadn't had the presence of mind to ask about that before.

To be fair, they'd both had more important things on their minds.

"California," Jalian answered. "Around Carmel. But several centuries in the future, and on a different timeline. You?"

"Around this time, and from Boston, most recently." He'd been a few other places. He'd stayed on the east coast though. "Never even been to California, in this century or any others."

"The one I'm from is mostly forest by the ocean. This one, I visited with Kathy and some others - it was a huge city." She was still a bit in awe of the sheer size of what she'd seen of LA. "Full of people, very busy."

"That's what I hear," Ezra nodded. "Do I even want to know why it's mostly forest in the time you're from, or is that too depressing?"

Because he'd rather not, if it was depressing.

Jalian thought about it. "Probably depressing." The billions dying weren't exactly a laugh riot. "But it didn't happen in this timeline."

"How do you know?" he had to wonder. "Is it something that would have happened by 2015 if it was going to?"

"Yes," Jalian agreed. "It happened a few years ago in my timeline. I was traveling back to try to stop it, but I ended up here instead."

She grimaced, then shrugged it off. "How did you get here?"

Ezra shrugged. "Someone thought this would somehow do me good," he said. "I didn't disagree. So, here I am."

It was a bit more complicated than that.

"You meant to come here, then. Did you know what it was like?" Jalian asked curiously.

"I had a decent idea." His gaze turned ceiling-ward, like he was thinking about it. "Not the full scope of the crazy, but probably more of it than some people. I was told this place would be special."

In the way a werefox might understand it.

Jalian nodded. "It is...very different."

Even though he was pretty tired, Travis stuck around afterward anyway. He ordered a drink and was almost surprised when it didn't come back full of fruit.

Bucky had not been at the speed dating thing. In fact, he had never even heard of speed dating. He showed up right as it was ending, and sat down with a whiskey to take in the people.

"Can you make me another one of these?" Tamsin asked Mike, waggling her empty Bloody Mary while making an exaggerated sad face.

"I can," Mike confirmed, as he went to do just that. "But only because you asked so nicely."

Liar.

"Awww," Tamsin said, sarcastically batting her eyelashes. "You're almost making me feel like I'm not a paying customer."

Hey, if she didn't like him, the sarcasm would've sounded a lot harsher.

She just sounded like Joanna to him. That was good (with perhaps a tiny bit of bad, because of reasons). He looked amused.

"Hey, you're getting much better service from me tonight than anyone else at this bar, that has to count for something."

Tamsin thought about it. "Okay, fine, that's heading back in the right direction," she allowed. "So, construction? You're the one who's making the creepy mansion less creepy, right?"

"That's me, yeah."

He slid her new Bloody Mary over.

"While Derek's re-creeping the place up, that is. But he's been getting much better over the last couple of years."

"Oh, I know Broody," Tamsin said, sipping her new drink. It was good, but then, so had been her last one. "Without you, that house probably would've turned into a Creep-Singularity at this point."

"I like to think we balance each other out, yeah." Mike wasn't sure what qualities he had that needed to be balanced out, but it seemed to all work out okay. "Still nice to get someone else to at least visit the damn place."

Stiles did not count.

Tamsin shrugged. "I've met Derek," she said.

They got along, even. It was that whole shared contempt for most of humanity thing they had going on.

"And I've met creepier. I can survive your house, especially if the bed's as good as you talked it up to be."

"Oh, the bed's good." He had standards when it came to furniture. "I didn't lug it over all the way from Tampa for nothing. King size, good mattress, and a sturdy as fuck frame."

All important qualities.

Éponine was at the bar mostly because after a week of being incredibly quiet, there was actually activity around the island again and it was a nice change. She'd ~~lurked~~ waited outside until the crowd from the speed dating event started to disperse before coming in, ordering herself some bourbon, and camping out at the bar. Sometimes it was nice to just be in a place where there were other people, even if she wasn't doing much besides sitting there and watching.

After the speed dating was done, Vic ordered another beer and sat at the bar and watching the interaction going on with other people.

And trying not to look at the zombies. There was only so much of that she could look at without getting queasy.

Jones took a seat at the bar, still holding her full glass of wine. After the speed dating was over she wanted to observe any interactions taking place and if this event truly fostered any type of relationships.
