Leland Gaunt's plans were proceeding ever so nicely. Far better than he had hoped. There were tendrils out in the ether; there were possibilities branching off from one another. He'd known this island was a good choice.

The sign in the window still read:

and Leland Gaunt waited for more customers.

Travis had the requested item stuffed in a bag so it wouldn't look too obvious. He slipped into the shop and looked around.

Ah, there was one of the faces he was expecting. The bag was a promising sign, as well.

"Welcome back," Leland said. "How good to have a return customer."

Especially one that brought him goodies. Not that he had ever doubted that Travis would.

"It was a lot easier than I expected to get these things," he said, sounding surprised. "Security's pretty lax around here, isn't it?"

"It does rather seem that way," Leland said airily. "I haven't tested it myself. I doubt they take kindly to newcomers with sticky fingers."

Read: there was no reason to risk his own hide, when so many people were willing to do it for him.

Anders was out on a ramble after class when he found himself in front of the new store. It felt slightly off to him,in an attractive way that hinted at power and magic.

He went in and began browsing the shelves, not sure what he was looking for. There was a pair of cat earmuffs that held some appeal...

"Welcome, welcome, welcome!" Leland clapped his hands together and regarded the newcomer with shining eyes. "I do love to see new faces in this store. Do come in, and let me assist you in finding what you most desire."

"What I most desire," Anders repeated as he turned to face Leland, caught by the turn of phrase. "That's a lofty promise. I was just looking for something to keep me out of trouble for the weekend."

"I may have that, as well," Leland said easily. "You must forgive a salesman his patter. I have traveled far and wide, to bring these mystical and magical artifacts to your very doorstep: a sentence that is both true and designed to sound pleasing to the ear. One never knows. Perhaps I have your heart's desire here, in this very store. It has happened before."

Leland was thoroughly enjoying himself. This store was his life's work, and this dance was his very favorite dance.

With little else to do on this miserable little island, Ronan found himself wandering into some random store, Gansey's journal under his arm. He'd meant to take a trip to toss that into the ocean or something but got a little sidetracked.

"Welcome to my humble abode!" Leland beamed at the new face, offering its owner a sweeping bow. "Do come in, and may you find what you seek amongst my treasures."

Ronan raised an eyebrow but stepped inside nonetheless. "Let's hope you're more exciting than what's typically on this island."

He didn't have high hopes.

Leland Gaunt laughed. "A skeptic, I see," he said. "I could show you the wonders of the ages, and you would scoff that you wanted the Hope Diamond in a different color. Some seek only to be disappointed, and often meet that goal."

Rinoa had changed her mind at least four times today. She'd lied to Squall. She'd betrayed his trust and stolen his GF. But ...

But Mr. Gaunt understood her.

And he had that book.

A deal was a deal was a deal.

So she reluctantly made her way in, half-hoping Leland wouldn't see her, and that she'd have the courage to leave and put Quezacoatl back where he belonged.

Her hopes were in vain.

"Miss Heartilly," Leland said warmly, gesturing her into the shop. "I am ever so delighted to see you once again. Do please come in."

His eyes were large and hopeful, as if he couldn't quite bring himself to ask the words aloud. Had she managed to find it? Did she return with the answer to all of his questions?

At seeing Mr. Gaunt's eyes, Rinoa was filled with an entirely new rush of guilt. She had been thinking about leaving. She held the key to this man's secrets, his life, and she'd been thinking about leaving.

She could just tell Squall the truth when she got home. For now ...

"Yes, I have him," she said, dropping her voice low so as not to be overheard. The squirrels were everywhere. "Can you close the store? Just for a few minutes."

"But of course." Leland gave her a shaky, grateful smile as he stepped past her to turn the sign over from 'open' to 'closed.' Another moment later, and he had the door locked as well.

When he turned around again, it was plainly apparent that his hands were shaking as well.

"I must thank you again, so, so very much, Ms. Heartilly. After all of this time, to finally be so close to having answers..." He lifted his head suddenly, and then held up a finger, bustling around to step behind the counter. There, he had the book set aside, waiting for her to come and claim it. "And you, as well. I can't possibly express how much I hope that this book contains all of the answers you've been wanting for so long."

Kathy had been heading to the Android's Dungeon to pick up her comics for the week and had spotted the new store, the one that had been mentioned on the radio recently. With nothing better to do (other than more studying and--no. Just no. It was Friday.), she decided to poke her head in and see if there was anything interesting inside.

Maybe she'd find something for Sarah or her mom inside.

"It's always good to see a new face in here! Granted, most faces I see here are new, but my point still stands. Can I help you find anything, my dear?"

"Hi," Kathy said, giving Leland a little wave. "I'm just looking around, honestly. I thought I might find something here for my mom or my little sister. I'm not really the antique store type."

Sure, the old books were calling to her, but they would almost certainly be out of her price range. And most other things she liked were much more modern.

"Do you have anything like costume jewelry or is it all real?" Because real antique jewelry, much like antique books, were probably more than she really ought to pay.

Hanna had been on her run for the day again after her classes, thinking of things like love, and glory, and ... everything she didn't understand.

She'd slowed down to look in the windows when she got to town, and stopped to look at the motto on the window of this one.

Why not? She opened the door, and stopped just inside, looking around at all the stuff. It sort of reminded her of Mr. Knepfler's place in Berlin.

"Hello," Hanna greeted him, amused already, and carefully making her way around the shop so she didn't knock anything over. "I'm Hanna. I am not looking for anything in particular today." Although. Anything German, that would remind her of her Papa, or home a little bit... or of the Arctic Circle.... Just something to combat the homesickness that hit her sometimes. She stopped to look at a set of glass animals, smiling. "And I do not have much money. At all."
