Leland Gaunt could have retired years ago. Millenia ago. But he hadn't, for one very important reason.

Irene had a day off, and had been meaning to step into this store for the better part of a week, now.

Not that an antique store was necessarily her kind of shopping, but you never knew what kind of vintage find one might stumble across. And she did have a fabulous dry cleaner on the mainland.

She wandered in mid-afternoon, flitting a delicate wave and a smile towards the proprietor.

"Welcome, welcome, welcome!" Leland said brightly, offering a bow to the smartly-dressed woman. "I do so love to see a new face in my shop. Let me know if I may be of assistance."

"Oh, my," Irene said, clutching a manicured hand to her chest with a flirty grin. "It's been so very long since I've been bowed to."

She glanced around, and remarked, "Quite the collection you've amassed here, Mr....?"

"Gaunt," Leland replied, returning that flirty grin with one (somewhat flirty) grin in return. "Leland Gaunt, at your service! And thank you. I do take great pride in the assortment of wares that I've gathered. It's taken a long, long time and a great deal of travel to get as far as I have. Do feel free to look around!"

Carmilla kept hearing about this place on the radio, so she figured it was time she checked it out. Late afternoon, after spending the post-radio day flopped in her bed, she headed into town. She wasn't looking for anything in particular, so she was just browsing about to see if anything caught her eye.

"Welcome to my shop!" Leland announced, offering the young lady a bow. "Your humble shopkeeper does so appreciate new customers. Come in!"

Carmilla gave him a slight side-eye of "you were either a used car salesman in a former life or you're throbbing with evil because you are way too welcoming." Mistrustful? Her? Never.

"So what kind of stuff are you selling here?" she asked, glancing around.

Emma had handwavily with modded permission omg shown up yesterday to fuss over Jack, after he'd told her about the island's latest bout of insanity. Which, of course, meant neither of them had left his place at all yesterday.

Today, Emma was getting out and about for a bit, while he got set-up at work before opening. She'd be at Devil's Nest later, to pester the staff if nothing else, but for now she was indulging in her other favorite pastime, the one that wasn't terrorizing lesser lifeforms -- SHOPPING.

There were some glittery-things in the window, which really, was enough to draw Emma's attention and get her to enter the store. Maybe there'd be something cutesy that Candy would like.

Leland had plenty of cutesy. And sparkly. And cursed -- wait, was he supposed to admit that?

"Do come in," Leland said, enthusiastically. "Welcome to my curious little shop. Stay, and may you find treasures beyond your imaginings."

Forgive him his patter. It came with the job.

Oh, wasn't the patter adorable? "My imagination is rather large," she replied, dryly amused. "Far beyond the usual solitary human mind, you could say."

Emma, don't be a troll.

"Although I'd be careful of claims of treasure, darling," Emma continued as she lightly browsed, glancing into cases and things. "There's been more than a few pirates and sticky-fingered children to live in these parts."

Kathy had waited as long as she could before returning back to the store. She didn't want Mr. Gaunt to feel like she was rushing him or anything, but she really wanted a chance to look into that mirror again. And buy it. And bring it home with her.

That was normal, right?

"Hello?" she called, coming into the store. She wasn't looking for the proprietor, though. Her eyes were eagerly scanning for the mirror.

"Why hello," Leland called back, smiling as he saw her come in. "And welcome back! Have you had a chance to gift the jewelry to your sister, yet?"

He didn't think she had. In fact, he was quite certain he knew what she was here for.

"Did she--huh?" For a minute, Kathy had no idea what Mr. Gaunt was talking about. What did Sarah have to do with the mirr--oh! Right! The earrings! The whole reason Kathy had stopped in the first time! "I, umm, haven't had a chance to send them to her yet," she said, ducking her head a little. "I've been a little--" distracted "--busy."

Busy thinking about the mirror, even when she really shouldn't. Which was why she was sporting a small bruise on her cheek. Crime-fighting and daydreams didn't really mix all that well, surprisingly enough.

"I don't suppose you've had a chance to investigate that mirror?"

Pinkie had promised Leland's cake "lickedy-splittedly", and she was nothing if not reliable when it came to promises about cake. She was singing a happy, lalalaing kind of song to herself as she came into the shop, today, a lovingly decorated leg-themed devil's food cake balanced on her back. "Hihihi, Leland!" she called. "I brought your caaaa-aaaaaaaaake!"

"Well, hello again, Ms. Pie! I've been looking forward to this, I must admit, since we reached our arrangement yesterday over that... quality merchandise."

Quality. Really.

Later in the day, Hanna snuck in, a small envelope clutched in her hand. "Mr. Gaunt? ... I hope you didn't sell that album yet."

"I made absolutely certain to hold on to it for you," Leland promised, smiling warmly at Hanna as she came through the door. "I could tell it meant a great deal to you. I wouldn't have dreamed of taking this opportunity away from you."

Well, he might have if it stood to make things more amusing.

He would've broken Hanna's heart if he had. And she might have done something wildly unfortunate then. So just as well she was probably amusing him already.

She slid the envelope over the counter to him, then pulled back her hand, twisting her fingers together. "I hope it's enough. It was all I could find."
