Caritas- Tuesday

The more Lexi showed up, the harder it was to say goodbye and deal with the next few days after she left. But at the same time, it was slightly easier because Kitty and Clint had started talking about her like she was going to happen someday. But at the same time as that it made the goodbye harder.

Basically Kitty was in a pretty blah mood at the bar tonight, which she didn't think anyone could blame her for.

It's already a week. Only the Avengers and constant talk of Daredevil is getting me through it.

"I think this is the kind of day that calls for coffee and alcohol," Jack said, as he took a place at the bar. "Irish coffee, please. And hi."

"Hi," she said, getting the glass. "You got the post-kid blues, too?"

"I have the complicated post-kid blues," Jack said, setting his elbows on the stool. "The triplets didn't show up this time. Their brother did."

"And you're missing the triplets?" she guessed. "I can't keep everybody's kids straight half the time."

"I miss the girls a little," Jack nodded. "But also the boy was an utter hellion. I'm trying to imagine how we'll keep up with four."

He tilted his head. "I don't remember most other kids either. You had one with Clint?"

"Yep. Lexi. She shows up every time," Kitty said, passing over his drink. "Which I think might be getting to me enough that if she ever doesn't show up I will probably be inconsolable."

"I've had" -- Jack had to think about it -- "Dorian, Felix, Annika, Amelie, Christiana, Connor, Hannah. Seven. I sort of take it as it comes every year."

"Oh my god. I've only had two," Kitty said. "How many are with Emma?"

"Four," Jack said, looking vaguely abashed. It wasn't hard to miss that Kitty and Emma were not each other's favorite people. "Then there's one with Kaidan, one with Derek, and one with ... an old lover from back home."

It was strange to call Sebastien that,but it felt right.

"...I'm trying to imagine Emma with four kids," Kitty said slowly.

"She can't imagine it either," Jack said, with a little grin. "Apparently I'll be sleeping on the couch until I'm 40."

"That sounds about right," she said with a little smile. "Do you think any of those kids would ever happen?"

"The secret is," Jack said,lowering his voice, "I'll be very sad if the triplets, at least, don't come to happen. I've gotten a little attached,the way you are with Lexi."

"I totally get it," Kitty said. "Though oh my god, that'd be three babies."

"I know," Jack said, making a face. "We'd probably have a nanny to get us through, but we're stillgoing to be pretty wrecked for a year. Or, you know, 18 years."

And then apparently they had another one. Ha. Jack took a deep sip of the Irish coffee and pondered what his ever self could possibly be thinking.

"I bet the high school years are fun," Kitty teased.

"Don't even mention it," Jack groaned. "They came as teenagers last time. One of them spent half her time flirting with Karla and Warren's son. Apparently they all go to school together here."

He hoped Nommy was a lot younger than Kayla, because otherwise the timeline there required triplets a lot sooner than he preferred.

"I'm suddenly so glad Lexi shows up here little. Clint's already decided she's not dating till she's forty." And Kitty might argue against that except for her habit of say, dating guys five years her senior when she was fourteen which was not allowed to happen here. " Would you really want to send them to school here?"

"Might be the best option," Jack pointed out. "It doesn't seem like there really are safe times for mutants in your kind of world, and I can't see Emma settling down in mine. At least things would be stable for them in Fandom. You don't think Lexi will go here?"

"There's yearly sex pollen here. My daughter is so not dealing with that," Kitty said. "I already know Lexi's a mutant, and whatever her powers are I want her to be able to learn about them around other kids like her, you know? And I'm hoping we can make some positive changes in regards to human-mutant relations before she exists so she doesn't have to deal with the worst of it."

Good luck with that.

"I don't want to think about my daughters and sex pollen," Jack admitted. "But no, that makes some sense. We've got time, anyhow. I don't think either of us is going to go have a baby tomorrow."

"Yeah," she agreed. "Ideally I'd like to be able to rent a car first. You know, in theory."

"And I was hoping to finish school and get a real job," Jack nodded. "live together. Maybe do something crazy and old-fashioned and even get married. Clint's not in a hurry either?"

Clint wasn't old in the least, but he was enough older that it seemed like it might make a difference.

"We haven't really talked about it like that," she admitted. "We talk about her like she's going to happen someday, but we have this bad habit where like, we both were thinking of moving in together for a while but neither of us wanted to bring it up first so it didn't happen till one of those days when you just word vomit the truth all day."

Kitty frowned. "I should probably bring it up."

"It couldn't hurt," Jack had to agree. "That way at least you'll know what the other person has in mind."

Kitty wrinkled her nose. "But it's scary."

That was the most five-year-old reason not to do something.

"That it is," Jack had to agree. "I shouldn't talk. Emma and I just got around to maybe discussing possibly living together in the future a few months ago. We've been dating on and off since high school."

"See, I think that's smart," Kitty said. "Every high school age relationship I had blew up. It's good to take it slow and know you can still deal with each other when you're grown up and in the real world."

"I agree, but then I look at how Karla and Warren already have a baby, and she was a freshman when I was a senior," Jack sighed. "And then I'm not sure if I'm old or they're way too young."

"They're too young," she decided immediately. "Because they were both in school when I got here when I was eighteen and nooooope."
