Why Flick had agreed to work for a guy with his face, he didn't know. It seemed like easy enough money even if that was something he didn't really need. And the side benefit of being around so much candy was a pretty good motivator too.
Still, Flick wasn't all that used to standing behind a counter or walking around a store for long hours so he was a little fidgety to start out with. At some point, his twitchiness got the best of him and he'd started building some small candy town made up of candy corn, gummi bears and licorice.
Don't ask.

She didn't look up when she ducked into the store. She was just here to grab a bag of something to cheer her up the rest of the day.

He also noticed that she was wearing the same clothes and he pursed his lips but didn't say anything.

"Oh."
She took a second to look him over. The guy that looked like Flick worked here, right? But, yeah. She didn't think she was so worn out to not recognize her boyfriend.

Her poor candy got put on the counter in an unnecessarily harsh way. The look on her face had already soured.

"You upset about something?" he asked, snagging her candy to ring it up for her.

It matched her tone when she finally said, "Not a thing."

So she could get out of here.

"Why are you so pissed off?" he wondered, shaking his head. "You sent me away. Said you had no use for me."

She hadn't thought he'd actually do that. But she said nothing more. Just glared at him instead.

You should know him better than that, Isabelle.

"You can keep your candy, Jon."

You know, before she'd tried to leave just now.

He rung the candy up and slammed a twenty into the till.
"Take your candy and go."

"By the Angel did it look like I was serious about sending you away?"

But he didn't have to worry about that now. She was going, this time. Furious, and with her eyes stinging, but going.
