Caritas, Monday evening

It wasn't her Independence Day coming up this weekend, but who cared? Time to make some fun drinks.

"Kenzi!" Cecil grinned at her, but it was a bit more subdued than usual.

"Cecilllll," Kenzi said, very pleased. "What's your poison?"

"Scorpion if you can get it, but - oh! Sorry." Cecil shrugged. "Um. Something pretty?"

"Red White and Blue, coming up," she said, studying his face as she started to make it. "You're looking a little down, bud. Everything okay?"

"I don't think it is," Cecil said a bit firmly. "And I'm tired of not knowing. I know ♥Carlos♥ doesn't want to worry me, but not worrying me is worrying me!"

"Right," Kenzi said, although she wasn't sure she would've followed this if they hadn't talked about it before. "So when are you going to go visit?"

"Tonight. Later." Cecil sighed but set his jaw firmly. "I'll just pop back home, see what's going on and that everything's fine and ♥Carlos♥ is just being scientifically overcautious, and then I'll come right back. I hope."

"You hope?" Kenzi checked, sliding the drink over to him with a look of worry. "You better be, bud. I do not want to hear that you got stranded there by Portalocity. I mean, I know it's your home and all, but... And you have to be back on Wednesday for the O Canada celebrations!"

"I'll try?" Cecil shrugged. "But I have to know. And if there's something wrong, I have to help! Even if it's just cowering in a corner and yelling suggestions."

"Welll, you better call and tell me what's up, as soon as you know." Kenzi frowned and sipped her own Diet Coke. "I hope it's just some weird tech issue and nothing else, but."

Yeah, but.

"I definitely will." Cecil admired his drink before starting on it. "You're my best ex-wife, after all!"

"And don't you forget it," Kenzi said, poking him in the shoulder, grinning. "Man, we need to go to Vegas again sometime. Maybe you can talk Carlos into coming with us?"

"That'd be fun!" Cecil grinned and bounced a little. "Maybe for our anniversary or something. Um. Do you remember when it was?"

"Um. August or something?" She was pretty sure. Mostly sure.* "We did say we'd do it again in Atlantic City or something, didn't we? And we got arrested in Vegas, but we didn't get married. I think doing this again is a good plan."

*In fact, it was February 9. That was fairly close, all things considered.

Pfft. As if time were real!

"Well, we got divorced in Vegas! Symbolically at least," Cecil declared. "So in August we'll have to go to Vegas again or Atlantic City or something, and I'll bring ♥Carlos♥ and you can bring...your guy," whose name he had forgotten. "Oh! And we definitely need Raven along again, too!"

"Toby," Kenzi added, a little more subdued, because... yeah. "Oh! Yes, I'll tell her next time I see her, and call Sparkle and invite him too, 'cause you know he'd have a blast." And everyone else who had been on that trip! "Would Carlos be good at poker, do you think?"

"I don't know." Cecil thought. "We could try, though!"
