Fandom Firehouse, Sunday afternoon

Flash was clinging to the firepole, zombie gremlins surrounding him on all sides on the ground. Apparently the place was infested with gremlins. Who knew? So when Flash found himself backed into the firehouse for what he thought were strategic purposes, he was very wrong.

The symbiote could probably protect him from a gremlin bite. That was just a poison. A zombie bite was more mystical, so he really wasn't sure about that one. So whatever. He'd just stay up here, picking gremlins off with a variety of guns until they were all just gremlins again.

That was the plan. And then a wave of gremlins dove down the pole from the second floor.

Kitty heard the shooting when she was trying to knock a few gremlins out before work, and phased her head in. "Need help in here?"

Flash dove backwards off the pole, shooting, kicking, and firing some tendrils out to punch even at a distance. He hit the floor with a back handspring and threw himself at the far wall as more tendrils took the guns in his hands and continued firing.

"Hey, Kitty. I wouldn't say no if you have a few minutes."

"Yeah, no problem," she said, coming in and finding a gremlin she could swiftly kick in the head hard enough to knock it out. "The problem is they're so slow. How've you been?"

"They're slow until they're falling on you. Gravity fixes a lot for them," Flash said. "And, you know, not bad. I've helped destabilize a dictatorship and crush a mob family recently, so I've been busy. You?"

"Teaching mutants, got engaged... That's about it," she said, phasing before one gremlin managed to bite her ankle.

"Congratulations. To Barton?" Flash asked as he hit that gremlin with a headshot.

"Yep! We haven't made concrete plans yet but you'll get an invitation," Kitty told him, kicking at another gremlin.

"I'll do my best to make it," Flash said. Now that there was both another target for the gremlins' attention and another person kicking them, he was able to focus a little more on a slightly smaller group. And while he did that, the suit threw a knockout gas grenade over toward a group of gremlins downwind of both Kitty and himself. "My new job is a little unpredictable, but I'll see what I can do."

"First, was that a grenade?" Kitty asked him. "Second, what's the job now?"

"Gas grenade," Flash answered. "Now that they're split up a bit, I can knock them out that way without putting either of us at risk. And the new job is even deeper special ops than my last team. So sorry, but no details."

Honestly, he figured it was a bad idea to mention that he was teaming with the Punisher, Elektra, Deadpool, the Leader, and a Hulk that was considered to be a straight up villain until recently. Considering the symbol on his chest, it might suggest some things about his current moral stances.

"Not a problem." She was engaged to a SHIELD agent, which made hearing stuff like that easy. "Just as long as you're careful and all that."

"Fortunately, the team is extremely professional. All care is given to everything we do," Flash promised.

Except for trusting the Leader. Or Ross. Or having Mercy on the team at any point. Or Deadpool. And god knows what would happen if whatever Castle and Elektra had blew up.

Kitty paused. "But really, be careful. Seriously, I know superheroes."

She didn't even need to know who was on the team.

"It's more military, less superhero," Flash promised. Technically true, thy were definitely less superheroes. And he and Ross, at least, were active Army.

"Will you just let me mom you?" Kitty laughed. And kicked a stray gremlin in the head.

"Nope," Flash said, sprouting a few more armed tendrils to take down some of the few remaining gremlins. "I'm older than you. It would be confusing."

"I'm mature for my age. And an authority figure," Kitty pointed out.

"I have a habit of having issues with authority figures. Ironic for an army guy, I know," Flash said. Even when that authority figure was a Hulk. "I'd rather get along with you."

"Siiiiiigh," Kitty said, drawing out the word. "Fine. I'll still think it, though."

"I can't ask you to not be you," Flash said, letting all of his guns sink back into the suit as he pointed both fists up to web the opening from the second floor at the pole.

"Not many left, and now they can't get any reinforcements who happen to be up there."

Kitty looked up to watch him work. "Hopefully it'll wear off soon and they can... I don't want to say 'be back to normal' because that sucks too, but..."

"No, but it's probably the best we can hope for," Flash said. He webbed the last few gremlins fo the floor as his mask melted away so Kitty could actually talk to him face-to-face. "I think we're finally good here. Thanks."

"Not a problem," Kitty said, and smiled. "Good to have you back, by the way."

"It's good to be back for a few days," Flash said as the armor transformed into a more casual black T-shirt and jeans look. "It was be nice to stay even longer, but work. It never ends."

"I hear ya," Kitty said. "Want to go hunt down some gremlins and get some coffee? We can chat."
