Homecoming Dance 2015, Town Hall, Saturday Evening

This year's Homecoming had an autumn forest theme, and as such it was more natural than certain dances in years past. The tables bore pumpkin centerpieces, and bales of hay occupied the corners. Garlands of autumn leaves had been twined around everything that would hold a garland, and some of the waiters were dressed as forest creatures. (A few of the others were dressed like 'Pumpkin Spice,' which translated to short orange dresses, big hair, and a habit of answering questions with 'zig-a-zig-ah.' It was better not to talk to them.)

There was still plenty of glitter despite the theme. It had a way of creeping in around the edges.

Ringo pursed her lips. "Maybe I should try something like that sometime." She looked Ada up and down, then shook her head slightly. "Though somehow I don't think I'd wear it as well as you do."

"I am learning the wild and mysterious ways of 'shopping for clothes that did not come from your cousins,'" Ada promised impishly. "We can go together and find stuff we can still move in."

"I'm sort of learning that, too!" Ringo giggled. "Though more from sisters than from cousins."

"Previous shopping experience was get the pile of 'here's everything the older girls have outgrown, go at it,' and then pick through and pray you found something that fit and you liked, or you were gonna be stuck in band-themed tank-tops again for another season." Ada sighed, shaking her head. "And some of my cousins have TERRIBLE taste in music."

Ringo giggled. "I seem to remember that you have a whoooole lot of them, though, so at least there might be some choices?"

"Hundreds," Ada said melodramatically, "--but I'm one of the taller girls in my family, so my choices are limited."

At 5'7" Ada was practically a giant among some of the Millers, but it made her useful for getting things off shelves.

"Yeah. I guess I was luckier. Both my older sisters are taller than me." Which wasn't saying much, considering Ringo's height. "So at least we could cut down the hand-me-downs to fit."
