Demon Marcus, Thursday

There was a dance coming up, so Ada placed a sign in the window and made herself comfortable behind the counter with her sewing supplies and the pile of alterations. Maybe one of them would give her an idea of what she should wear for her own dress.

Lucille hadn't decided if she was going to the dance, but if she was she would need a new dress. The ones she had was getting quite worn, and not fit for a social gathering, even if it meant spending more of the little money she had. Having debated with herself whether it was a good idea or not -- finding a dress she liked that was too expensive was quite possible -- but here she was.

Once she had entered she regretted the decision immediately. She had no idea that Ada was working here.

It would seem strange to just turn around and leave, wouldn't it? Quickly, Lucille decided that it was best to pretend that Saturday had never happened.

"Good afternoon," she greeted a little tensely, still standing by the door. "I am looking for a dress."

Ada was laughing at her, wasn't she? Lucille hated being laughed at.

"Of course I wouldn't want a short one." Looking at the clothes on display rather than Ada, she added: "The fashion nowadays is truly tasteless."

"That wouldn't be to my taste," Lucille replied. Not that she had tried, as her parents would never have let her go out like that. "But I agree, winter is terrible, even if they are worse at home."

Turning to Ada, she almost smiled. "Should I ask you for suggestions?"

The offer was suspiciously generous and seemed quite sincere, but Lucille wasn't entirely convinced. Perhaps Ada wanted her to think that she thought nothing of Saturday evening, and then laugh behind her back.

If there was one thing Lucille hated more than being laughed at, it was being laughed at behind her back.

Eyeing Ada suspiciously, Lucille replied: "I see. Well, I am considering going to the dance and I need a new dress for that. A green perhaps, or a red." She spoke neutrally, doing her best to express no emotion.

Lucille wasn't going to blush again if she could avoid it. And definitely not giggle.

"Yes. Of course." Lucille waited, standing somewhat stiffly, studying Ada as she looked for suitable dresses.

"It's a good colour," Lucille decided. "Lace sleeves would be an improvement, and it would need a collar too." Because she would certainly not expose that much of her chest.

"I would like to try it on."

"Like the second one, or that last one," Lucille replied, more at ease when they were actually looking at dresses. ”I like those two as well.”

Why would she need help with the laces? Did Ada think she couldn’t dress herself?

The first one Ada had showed her fit nicely over her corset, and Lucille managed to lace up the back on her own. As she stepped out of the fitting room to use the larger mirror, she felt herself blush. It was a pretty dress, but she had never worn anything as revealing, and she felt exposed.

Sadly, Ada had a point there, and Lucille had never been allowed to indulge in pretty dresses before. She looked at herself in the mirror.

The red dress that Ada offered her was beautiful. Lucille reached out to run her hand across the fabric.

"Do you think it will fit?" What she really wanted to ask was 'Do you think it would suit me?' but that was too... something.

Some would say that Lucille might be in need of some enabling.

"I will do that." She returned to the fitting room with the red dress, and changed into it from the green one. This one was trickier though, and Lucille found herself struggling with the hooks at the back.
