Valentine's Day had passed Alluka by with confusion, mostly. She'd liked the flower that Anders had gotten her and she loved the tarts that Kathy had given her (she'd shared those with Mabel over a tea party). The actual point of the holiday had went right over her head though.

But, mostly, Alluka's day had been made by her new friends! She brought both of them to work with her today, even though she usually only brought one at a time.

One of her new friends was just a baby, though, so she thought it was okay to bring it with her at the same time as her new elephant, from Kathy. Mabel had given her a baby flower to be a friend to.

Alluka was determined to do her best to be a good friend to them, since they were going to be good friends to her too.

And then, when she got to work, she found another new friend, this one from Sparkle.

Piling them on the counter, she looked at them all. They all looked back at her. Then she clapped her hands together and hugged them all tightly.

"Come on," she said, "I'll show you around the store and then we can play dress-up!"

Her sheep and her elephant thought this was a great idea. Her flower burbled at her incoherently, but happily.

Away from the toys, if you want!

Who has new friends! Who loves new friends!

It was... the week that it was. And while Jono wasn't breathing in the pollen himself, there were enough interesting moods bleeding off everyone else on the island to drive even the weakest telepath absolutely mad. He'd gotten better at slamming up walls, fortunately, but he was still fairly antsy having to stay so bloody vigilant just to keep his brain from itching, so he decided to go for a walk.

And to do something productive in the process.

... Did you have enough stuffed animals yet, Alluka? Because Papa Jono came bearing a gift. He hated the holiday, but he was sometimes willing to make certain exceptions.

//Knock knock. Anybody at work here today?//

He was perhaps a tiny bit tentative about the whole outing, all the same. He'd been hiding his flames less and less these days, and today was no exception. Jono was pretty sure Alluka would take it fairly well, given her general nonchalance about most things, but he still wasn't going to relax until he knew for sure.

Annnnd there was the sound of scrambling and then a thump as Alluka happily flailed her way off the counter (she'd been trying different ribbons out on her elephant) and landed on the ground.

"I'm here, I'm here, I'm here!" she squealed and proceeded to launch herself in his direction. "Papa!"

... she had not even noticed the fire yet. It was hard to miss, but she'd managed it.

Well, at least Jono wasn't as prone to shying away from a hug while he wasn't wearing his wrappings as he used to be. He bent over and held open one arm. The other kind of had a large dinosaur tucked under it.

//Hey there, Sunshine! Hard at work, are you?//

The best dinosaur, don't even lie.

Alluka hugged him tightly, fearless in the face of both the flames and the dinosaur. "Yes!" she said, giggling, since playing dress-up with her toys was working for Alluka.

Sparkle was okay with counting it as work, anyway.

"Are you walking your new friend?" she asked. "Did, did you get it yesterday? Do you know it's name yet?" After a moment, she asked, while reaching out to pet the dinosaur. "Did you know you're on fire, Papa?"

Just in case he'd missed that! But the dinosaur was more interesting.

//I...// See? He loved this kid for a reason, blast it. //Yes, I've been on fire for a while, luv. I just generally hide it better.//

That was one way of putting it, anyway. He relaxed a bit as he straightened up again, holding the plush out for her to inspect.

//And I haven't asked the dinosaur what its name is,// he added. //Actually, I was hoping you might.//

You know. For reasons.

Alluka blinked at him.

"Me?"

She reached out for the dinosaur. "Are, are you sure?"

Why wouldn't he be sure, Alluka?

//Sure I'm sure,// Jono replied, handing the toy over. //I asked it if it wanted to follow me home, to be a Valentine's gift for you. It seemed quite agreeable to the idea, as a matter of fact.//

... He had no such conversation with the dinosaur. It still seemed fairly amenable to the whole situation.

Alluka was going to take it as fact that he'd had that conversation though. It wasn't any weirder than her conversations, after all.

She took the dinosaur and, after a moment of studying it, hugged it tightly.

"Thank you!" she said, beaming. "I'll look after it really well! And everyone will be happy to meet my dinosaur!"

Her bunny and her giraffe were going to be so sad they missed this!

Well, they'd get to meet them once Alluka made it back to her room with a whole gaggle of stuffed toys in tow, wouldn't they?

//You're very welcome, luv,// Jono replied, a little smile crinkling the corners of his eyes. //I hope it keeps you good company.//

"It will, it will!" She hugged her new friend again and then reached for Jono's hand. "Come and meet my other new friends!"

//Oh, you have more, do you? This weekend sounds like it was good to you, then,// Jono mused, blinking but letting her take his hand. //Sure, luv. Let's meet those new friends of yours, then, shall we?//
