Caritas, Saturday Evening

Some days, Mike was just glad that shit was normal. There wasn't freaky stuff happening, no hormone overdrive, no random things falling from the sky, and half the town's population wasn't even on vacation somewhere else. It was just a normal Saturday.

The only thing that would've made him feel even more okay was if it had been summer already. Damn, he missed summer. The best thing he could do about that was reflect it in the specials board.

If missing another season was the worst this day had in store for Mike, he was cool with that.

Sparkle couldn't help but chuckle a little as he looked over the specials board, grinning and nodding toward Leto.

"Looks like somebody's sick of the cold," he mused, because, hey, while he couldn't blame anybody for missing little things like green grass and sunshine, as a Canadian he still reserved the right to be a brat about it. "You want to try one of those before I start requesting every song in the karaoke book, or did you want to leap right in?"

Some people needed liquid courage. Sparkle mostly just enjoyed drinking.

Leto looked at the board, smiling as he shook his head. "I don't know what those are," he said. "But I'll have whatever you're having. And since you're offered to provide the entertainment tonight I'd say it's only fair the drinks are on me."

No, Sparkle, you won't be able to make him sing.

Sparkle gave another easy laugh at that. He hadn't even started drinking and already he was in a good mood. Leto's company had a funny way of doing that.

"Seems lie a fair trade. I'll even let you pick a song, if you recognize anything you like in the songbook. Even if I don't know it, I'll happily fake it."

Because why not?

"I've got no idea what's in either of those, either. But green summer sounds fun, why not?"

"Choosing drinks based on the names seems like a good method," Leto replied cheerfully, then ordered two from Tino. He was enjoying this too, and had happily accepted Sparkle's suggestion for the evening, even if it meant Sparkle doing all the singing.

"I could perhaps choose songs the same way?" He grinned at Sparkle.

"Oooo. Okay, see, now I'm curious what songs have names that'd catch your eye," Sparkle replied, making a grab for the songbook. "Seems like a fun challenge, anyway, and if it ends with me doing my best Madonna impression or something, hey, I can't complain about that. Madonna's fabulous."

And posed plenty of opportunity for Sparkle to strut.

"I have no idea who Madonna is but I'm sure you can tell me which songs that would be." He leaned closer to get a look at the song book with a mischievous look on his face. Yes, he would go for the strangest titles.

"I could," Sparkle agreed, "and maybe I'll point some out later. Now I'm curious to see what you pick, though."

Because strange suited him just fine. Sparkle didn't conform well.

"I'm going to start out easy for you then," Leto replied, pretending to look thoughtful as he eyed through the list. Eventually, he said: "And as you mentioned someone called Madonna I thing that song called 'Like a Virgin' would be a good start."

Because that was a funny title, right?

Sparkle was licking his lips and looking quite pleased at that suggestion.

"Ooh, you picked a fun one."

And, incidentally, a very 80's one. But hey, it was fun, and that was what mattered most, wasn't it? Either way, Sparkle was giving Leto a wink and a grin as he made his way up to the stage.

Leto leaned back against the bar and took a sip from the drink. It wasn't entirely to his taste, but he had expected as much and it didn't really matter. He was more curious about what Sparkle liked so much about this, and he figured he would find out.

Well, for a start, there was the synth. There was a lot of synth. And drums. And ample opportunity for Sparkle to give his ass a shake as he took the mic and the band started to play.

"I made it through the wilderness
Somehow I made it through
Didn't know how lost I was
Until I found you!"

Sparkle was no Madonna, but the bare minimum to get by with this song was that a person had to be having fun singing it, and Sparkle had that covered.

Leto was used to musical performances that were very good. Occasionally good and dull, depending on your taste. And while most musicians enjoyed their art, this was more enjoyment than art, and Leto just stared at first, then tried not to laugh. It was just that there was something very sweet about Sparkle having fun and clearly not caring what anyone thought about it.

But really, wasn't that the best way to have fun, anyway?

Shiny and new!"

Was there an extra bit of strutting at the end of that part for the 'shiny and new' bit? Absolutely there was. Look how shiny he was! Hell, his name was Sparkle, after all.

Sometimes that name was very appropriate. Leto didn't care about what people thought a lot of the time, but that often just made people annoyed with him.

"Hoo, like a virgin!"

Was it obvious that this was Sparkle's favourite part of the song? No? Maybe he'd just run his hand over his chest in a sort of 'hey, look, I'm totally fondling myself onstage now,' gesture.

"Touched for the very first time!"

At least the gesture matched the lyrics well? And for the next part, he'd stop the groping and just pat his chest a few times. You know. Like a heartbeat.

"Like a virgin

Next to mine!"

Ok, Leto just blinked and shook his head lightly. This was so much better than the audiences yesterday. Not that those hadn't been interesting, but still. He wondered of those gestures were just Sparkle, or whether they were some kind of conventional way of expressing the lyrics of the song.

Sparkle was too young to really know the music video very well or anything like that. That dance was all him.

... But really, the lyrics were giving some pretty strong cues, anyway.

"Gonna give you all my love, boy
My fear is fading fast

'Cause only love can last!"

It probably wasn't any surprise that Sparkle was making flirty, if playful, looks at Leto from the stage, right? Since he was up there putting on the show for his amusement in the first place?

Yeah, your love thawed out
What was scared and cold!"

Okay, they were a bit more casual than Madonna and her mystery lover. But it was still a fun song, dammit.

Leto would have been a little disappointed if he hadn't got any flirty looks at all, at least considering the song. It was just a bit hard to respond to them from where he was standing, but he could possible make up for that later if Sparkle wanted. He took a sip from his drink again, wondering if there was something the audience was expected to do except trying not to laugh too much. Not that he felt he had to conform to that, but out of curiosity.

Oh no, sitting back and enjoying the show was more than enough for Sparkle. He thrived on attention.

Continuing to play to the room, and to Leto in particular, Sparkle kept up that strut and the occasional wink until the song was over, enjoying all the innuendo it had to offer.

And then he was making his way down from the stage again, to join Leto back at the bar.

"A good choice."

A fun choice.

Leto had picked up on the fun, yes, and he was perfectly happy to offer the attention.

"That," he said, offering Sparkle his drink and a teasing smile, "was adorable."

For back room stuff.
