The Devil's Nest, Friday Evening

Friday night of finals week. The Devil's Nest was open if any of the teachers felt like a drink to celebrate. Underage students might want to head to Caritas.

But until she was needed, Allie had her nose buried in a book. Go ahead, be shocked.

"Who got through a whole semester teaching kids dumb crap without having it backfire even once?" Fred asked as he wandered over to the bar. "This guy. And for that, this guy gets the third finest beer you have. It's a reward to myself."

"Bottle. This is a civilized place," Fred said. The thing is, he picked bottle arbitrarily. If he had decided draft, he would have insulted bottles. This was what happened when he didn't have enough good fights in a given month.

Better than American, thought the Aussie. "I spend most of my nights alone in quiet contemplation," Fred said. He was probably joking. It was probably more of an inside joke with somebody who already knew him. "Name's Fred. I've only been here this semester."

"Hey, you got to me before the summer semester starts. I'm technically still new around here," Fred pointed out before taking a swig of his beer.

"I called it a gym class, but it was all really based around the thought of training them to be badass spies or something," Fred said. And by 'spies or something' he meant 'criminals.'

"That was my thinking," Fred said. "Teach kids how to both retreat and fight and you've pretty much covered the bases. As far as I'm concerned, they probably didn't need any of their other classes."

"Normal's for suckers. Be weird," Fred said, scoffing at those theoretically normal kids. SCOFFING!

"My real career involves running around with a boomerang strapped to my face while I throw boomerangs at things during fights," Fred said. "I was ready for whatever Fandom's could throw at me the day I set foot on the island. It hasn't disappointed."

Nothing much had happened to him here, no.

"GIve or take, yeah," Fred said. "But the me being a kid thing didn't happen."

Neither did any of the others.

"Well, when it's time, you can count on me," Fred lied as he pulled a boomerang out of his sleeve anyway. "I'm always ready." He had twelve more boomerangs hidden on his body somewhere.
