All work and no play made Jack a dull boy. And made JARVIS make snide remarks until Tony left his lab. But the joke was on him, Tony could keep an eye on all the security sweeps through any system associated with the Red Skull with his brain now.

So, ha.

"I've lived here for over a year and I didn't realize this place existed," he admitted, looking around at the quaint arcade games, bowling lanes, and lone pool table. With one pool cue. Because apparently they wanted only one person to play at a time.

Which was about as weird as someone doing the Charleston for eight hours at a time.

"It's swell," Steve agreed with a tiny smile. "Think they have burgers?"

"If they don't, there's always that Mooby's place to get food poisoning." Tony, don't be snooty about fast food. "I feel like I should have my hair slicked back and wearing a leather jacket to be in here."

"Well, I can play pool while you change costumes," Steve suggested sweetly.

"You're all heart," Tony shot back dryly. "But it only works if the other person wears a poodle skirt to drive home the nostalgia."

Steve burst out laughing. "But then we'd need to eat canned soup and Jello molds instead, right?"

"Apple pie," Tony said. Because he was clearly the expert on wholesome Americana growing up dysfunctional and rich beyond sin. "And casseroles."

"I like both of those things."

Of course he did.

"So, is that a yes to the poodle skirt?"

[heroic_jawline]

"Not on me," Steve said. "I don't have the legs for it."

"Then I'll have to abandon my dreams of being Marlon Brandon," Tony replied with a deeply sad sigh. "This time."

"Aww," Steve said with faux sympathy. "Never give up your dreams, Tony."

[imafuturist]

"Didn't anyone tell you?" Tony asked, looking concerned as he swanned on past Steve to steal that lone pool cue first. "In the future, the phrase is 'give up on your dreams and settle.'"

"That's horrible advice," Steve said. "I mean, we lived the 'take the job you can get or starve' thing, but still had dreams."

"Were they dreams of food?" Because Tony was guessing they were dreams of food.

"Sometimes," Steve admitted. "There's only so many days you can eat beans in a row."

"Remind me to refrain from time travelling back there," Tony said far too seriously. But he knew his life. His magical, god awful life.

He offered over the cue because he could share. Also, someone had to set up the billiard balls.

"Thanks, Tony," Steve said, holding the cue lightly between his fingers. "The last time I played this we used real sticks and boulders and the game broke up because a triceratops came through."

Oh, just wait until Tony found out about the Savage Land.

"I'm not even surprised by this."

Steve made a little face at that. "It's getting harder to shock people around here," he complained.

"Next time say it was dinosaur Hitler," Tony suggested. "Much easier to believe."

It was not, Tony.

Steve snorted. "Want me to break, or do you want to shoot first?" he asked.

"If I let you break, will I get a chance to play at all?" he asked, leaning against the table. He looked mostly amused because there was some completely healthy ruthless shoving down of any sadness over memories of getting conned by a different version of Steve Rogers.

"Well, I'm not Clint," Steve replied, "but understanding and exploiting angles is kind of my job. So...maybe, maybe not?"

They were serious people with serious skills. Used to cheat at games.

"Uh huh. Knock yourself out, Cap."

Steve would absolutely use his baby blues to cheat you out of everything you owned in poker.

Steve smirked, then hit the cue ball just off to the left side of the grouping, shooting the balls in all directions. He sunk two stripes and a solid and smiled. "Guess I'm stripes, then," he said.
