Kenzi was on her tumblr account today, trying to start a flame war. The drinks matched her ambitions.

Jessica needed a break from all of her work. A night out seemed like a good idea. She wasn't sure why everyone seemed on edge tonight, but she figured it wasn't anything too bad.

Then she noticed the drinks and how on fire they were.

"Hey, Kenzie. Is... is something going on tonight?" Okay, maybe a night out was a terrible idea, but it was an interesting one.

"We're celebrating the flame war I started!" Kenzi looked rather excessively cheerful about that. "Also, it's a Monday. People need really flashy drinks on Mondays."

"I'm pretty sure 'flashy drinks' doesn't mean 'could be used as a flash bomb,'" Jessica noted. "That's not an objection."

"So what are you most in the mood for? Rum, vodka, long-burning?" Kenzi grinned and said, "Any particular stuff driving you here to the bar today? I can always make you a theme drink for the trouble you're trying to drown. Or burn."

"Let's go with long-burning so I can nurse it for longer," Jessica said. "And my issues are complicated and convoluted. I'll spare you unless you're really curious."

"Honey, I'm always really curious," Kenzi said, expertly starting to mix a Flaming Blue Lamborghini (http://www.drinksmixer.com/drinkab13597.html) (rum, rum, schnapps, coffee). "It's a defining trait. And my curse. But no pressure if you'd rather forget what drove you here, 'cause I have the recipe for amnesia!"

"A couple weeks ago I went to a giant world made up of the remaining fragments of countless dead universes. I was killed, woke up alive a week later, then the world exploded, but apparently some of the worlds that made that place up are reappearing," Jessica said. "And now I'm trying to figure out why I didn't stay dead. So I'd like to keep my memory, but thanks for the offer."

"Hoo boy, I am making this a double shot," Kenzi said, shaking her head and then sliding over two glasses. "So okay, dead universe, dead you, alive you, exploded universe, resurrected universe, still alive you. Yeah, I got nothing but booze for you. And the advice to find someone to drink up with so you can have fun memories to fight off the bad ones."

"I'll take the extra shot, but I'm doing okay, I promise," Jessica said. "I deal with stuff through work more than fun. Last week was about the universe stuff. This week is about figuring out what's up with me. So that'll be a fun day in the lab."

"How do you run lab tests on still being alive?" Kenzi asked, looking confused. "Check if you're still breathing? Do measurements on how invisible you aren't?"

"I spent the weekend taking a whole lot of blood samples," Jessica said. "Tomorrow I have to start developing some kind of device that can analyze the anomalies in my DNA and eventually turn that into something I can poke at to figure out why I can do the things I can do."

"Like surviving an exploding universe," Kenzi checked, pouring herself another Diet Coke to jump-start her brain. "Or do you mean the more standard I'm-alive-again thing? Jeez, I can't believe I just called that 'standard.'"

"Oh, I didn't survive the exploding universe. I escaped it because Tony Stark was able to get us a portal with the portal machine I built," Jessica said. "We do crazy science stuff at Stark's. So yeah, it's the thing where I stopped being dead after a week."

"Hunh. Congratulations?" Kenzi said, not sure what else to say. "You could give the band tips? ... Also, you guys aren't working on a Frankenstein with this stuff. Right?"

"No. I've been a lab experiment. I'm not going to do that to anyone else," Jessica said. "I will do it to myself, apparently, though."

"This is going to end up a cautionary tale in some handbook or other," Kenzi mused. Then she lit another shot on fire and slid it down the bar to a patron. "Which is great as long as there are photos and cartoons explaining where it all went wrong."

"I honestly think 'Don't be like Jess' is the best advice anyone could get on so many levels," Jessica laughed. "The whole handbook could be that."

"Chapter 5: Don't go to Exploding Universes. Chapter 6: You hang out at Stark Industries why?" Kenzi grinned. "Still. I hope there's a cool reason behind that, and not just an infinitely confusing or icky reason why you came back to life-- you weren't in a coffin, were you? Ew."

"No, I ended up on a lab table with various samples in jars around me. We blew that lab up before we left," Jessica said. "And I think I have an idea of what happened to me. But I need to know more. I need more than just an idea."

"Good luck. A lot of the time I've quit asking 'why' because the answer is sometimes 'aliens' sometimes 'the Island is crazy' and sometimes 'your future is screwed, Kenzi, drink more.'" She poured another shot and offered it to Jessica. "Keep good notes, I wanna hear how that comes out!"

"For me, the answer is 'because there's a supersoldier serum that has surprising side effects in my blood,'" Jessica said. "And I don't want to be surprised by any more of those side effects. Especially since I knew this one guy... super evil guy, for the record, but he exposed himself to it and it made him completely batshit, but apparently immortal. If I'm going to go crazy, I want to know it."

"I'd take mortal over batshit evil any day," Kenzi had to agree. "Are you going to shoot the terrible guy into the sun or something?"

"I don't need to. My world blew up over a year ago," Jessica said. "It's been a rough time in my area of the multiverse."

Nothing is on fire over here.

There might be some candles here. You can re-light your drink from them.
