The Beach, Monday Morning

The tight, cramped space of the whatever-the-hell-it-was-called was starting to get to Roscoe. He was taking a lot of walks to compensate, and his somewhat sour mood of the past few days meant he was leaving the skateboard at home. It wasn't as much fun when he was grumpy.

His phone buzzed and the sight of his mom's name on the caller ID did brighten him up a little. He hadn't heard from her in a few weeks, maybe even a month.

"Hi, Mom," Roscoe said, barely stopping the surprise from showing in his voice. "What's cracking?"

"Hey, sweetie," came Monica's voice on the other end. (Sweetie? That was a new one.) "Listen, I was in New York for some meetings this morning and guess where I was able to snag the last flight to?"

The excitement in his mom's voice made him perk up. "You better not say you went to Paris without me," Roscoe declared.

"No, silly. I'm in Baltimore!"

"Huh?" Roscoe said intelligently. "What are you doing here?"

His mom laughed like that was a ridiculous question. "Well, it wasn't a long flight, and I wanted to see you! Listen, I got us reservations for drag brunch at a hip little restaurant in the city. You're gonna love it. What time can you be here?"

Roscoe glanced down at all the nothing he was doing and broke into a huge smile. "I'll be there in twenty," he said. "Bye, Mom."

He took off at a jog for the Portalocity office, grinning the whole way.

[[open, if you want to catch him between his phone call and taking off!]]

The beach wasn't, really, a great place to do anything with AirTrek. The sand just made for a pretty terrible surface to ride on. The boardwalk, however, was pretty sweet. Sure it was mostly just flat, but there were rails, and hopping back and forth between them made for an interesting challenge all by itself.

And, besides, if you went down toward the beach, sometimes you ran into cool people. Like this time!

Ring grinned and waved when she spotted Roscoe. "Hey, Roscoe!" she called out as she approached.

Ringo laughed and hopped effortlessly up onto the nearest rail, balancing easily and looking down at Roscoe with a smirk. "Honestly? Yeah, a bit. But you've gotta practice everything or you start losing some of the less exciting skills."

She shrugged. "Besides, after a bit you start to learn to make your own fun, you know?"

"So what's up? You out here without your board?"

[ooc: If you're apologizing for it, then I'm totally off the hook for playing video games all afternoon and not checking email until, like, ten minutes ago? DEAL!]

"Well, they are a little bit, um, not the most comfortable?" Ringo admitted. "But I actually kinda like them."

"Not enough to want to stay there all summer or anything!" she added quickly, lest Roscoe get the wrong idea.

"Well, I'm not a huge outdoors person either, if you mean camping and stuff like that. But the view is kind of awesome, you have to admit."

She grinned. "Besides, you look like you're having a pretty good day even if you do have to camp out in a hut."
