The Park, Wednesday Morning

Kanan had made a grave mistake today. Kanan had wandered out beyond the Causeway, had actually explored some of the planet out beyond Fandom that morning. It had been pleasant. Uncomfortably pleasant. Aggressively pleasant. So pleasant that it had left him with sore eyes and a bit of a tic in one of the muscles in his cheek. Not to mention the three technicolor dogs, the flying kitten, and the smiling white bear with a purple penguin on its shoulders that had attempted to follow him back to the island. He'd managed to lose the bear and the penguin when they got distracted by the flamingos on Doctor Lecter's front lawn, and the flying kitten and two of the dogs had pranced off to play when Kanan had ducked into the Perk to get something to drink.

Tea, today. Some kind of herbal thing with no caffeine whatsoever, to the barista's wide-eyed bemusement.

Which left Kanan with just one puppy, prancing along behind him as he made his way into the park, found a quiet spot on the lawn, and sat himself down, setting his tea down nearby.

The puppy sat down on the other side.

"I'm not keeping you," he stated, squinting down at the pup who was looking expectantly back up at him, all white fur with rainbow dalmation spots, giving his tail a wag. "You can't stay. I'm going to close my eyes, and I'm going to meditate, and when I'm done meditating, you'll have left, deal?"

The puppy watched as Kanan closed his eyes. And then laid himself down for a nap, flopping his little body so that he was resting solidly against the man's hip.

Kanan sighed.

[OOC: We're too damn efficient and I've been granted a five day weekend from the animation mines because we finished everything before WB gave us more work to do. Save me from myself, please.]

Hannibal had been told the island wasn't dangerously bright anymore.

He hadn't been told it was ridiculously neon.

He clashed with everything on this planet. Or rather, everything clashed with him, since he was the reasonable one.

Still, it meant he was wearing a fairly nondescript grey and dark blue jogging suit as he...well, jogged.

He paused for a moment when he passed Kanan. "You seem to have acquired a passenger."

Kanan heaved a sigh and cracked open one eye to look up at Hannibal.

"The plan is not to keep it that way," he said, firmly. "I don't do pets."

Said the man who had cooed at Hannibal's cats at every given opportunity since arriving on the island. Said that guy.

"Neither do I," Hannibal said. And he now had two cats, a frog, and a flock of flamingos that had somehow adopted him. "I doubt they care."

"Well, it isn't as though I invited it to tag along," Kanan sighed. And then paused. "Which reminds me, if there's a bear in your yard when you go back home, don't panic, it's friendly. But then, it had a pretty short attention span, maybe it went home already."

Hannibal grimaced. "Is it also rainbow-colored?"

Cecil could take or leave the current planet, honestly, but Foucault loved it! He'd insisted upon an extensive walk, in fact.

Cecil flopped down next to Kanan when he got a chance, leaving Foucault to run and play with the flamingos. "Hi! Oo, what a pretty puppy!"

Kanan had sensed Cecil coming, fortunately, which was why he barely managed to reach out and rescue his tea before the errant flopping. And now he was clutching it to his chest and opening his eyes to look at Cecil, eyebrow raised.

"You're a fan of rainbow dogs, are you?"

[voiceoverdue]

"Well, I am a dog person. And he's adorable!" Cecil reached out to rub his ears. "Isn't he?" he cooed at him. "You are, aren't you?"

Yeah, he was one of those people.

Oh, space. What had Kanan done?

"Don't get too attached," he replied, watching Cecil coo and fuss. "He's not coming home with me."

Kanan just had to convince the dog of that fact, too.

[voiceoverdue]

"But he's yours, right?" Cecil made kissy-faces at the dog. "You know he's your human, don't you?"

Bob raised an eyebrow at the...thing attached to Kanan's side. It couldn't possibly be a dog; dogs didn't come in those colours.

"What on earth is that?"

[uncertain_dume]

This? This was the put-upon sigh of a man who was learning to never meditate in the park. Kanan looked up at Bob, reached for his tea, and took a sip before replying.

"You tell me, Bob. I'm not from Earth."

[nuclear_snide]

"Neither is that thing," Bob said. "It looks like a dalmatian that a rainbow threw up on."

[uncertain_dume]

"Well, then that's probably exactly what it is. A good bath and maybe some of that rainbow vomit will come off."

Good luck with that, Jarrus.

"And in case you were wondering, this planet we're parked on right now is full of things like this. Steer clear if you value your sanity."

"I may hide in my skull for the duration," Bob said, still eyeing the dog dubiously. He really didn't do cutesy.

Jalian noticed Kanan, but was happy to largely ignore him. She just wanted some time in the park away from all the bright, where she could practice her moves and run through exercises.

She nodded to him, though. And scowled a little at the dog.

Kanan nodded back, smiling faintly. He'd given up on meditating a while before, and now he was mostly just content to sit on the grass and people watch while the puppy had little puppy dreams and kicked his little puppy feet.

"Morning," he greeted. "Looks like you've had better luck avoiding the bad spice trip beyond the island's borders than I did, huh?"

Lucky.

"We went there for my class," Jalian answered. She scowled as she did a spin-kick and thrust. "I was nearly blinded."

Kanan winced sympathetically.

"No just ducking out of that lesson to save your eyes, huh? I paid it a visit for all of ten minutes this morning. That was a mistake."

And now he had a dog.

Jalian sighed. "The native species must have very poor eyes. Worse than most humans."

She made a feint and a strike, then belatedly added, "No offense."

This island was a little strange, yes, but still - being outside in a park was novel enough for him that Peter was determined to do it now and again.

He smiled and waved at Kanan. "Hi."

Oh, hey. Fancy latte guy! Kanan grinned a little at the familiar face and lifted his startlingly-not-coffee cup at Peter in greeting.

"Hey there," he called back. "How are you settling in?"

Peter wandered over. "I'm...settling." He shrugged. "I seem to own a flower shop now." He paused. "There's something I never thought I'd say, and I've done a lot of things over the years."

He gestured to the grass in a "mind if I join you" way.

Kanan nodded and gestured to the same spot with a sort of 'be my guest' nod.

"Life is full of surprises, I guess. At least it's something to keep busy with? Do you at least like flowers?"

"I like plants," Peter said. "Flowers aren't bad, I guess." He sat, then smiled a little at the scent of Kanan's cup. "I went for tea the other day, too. They seem better at that."
