Okay, Dante wasn't sure why all the stereo wanted to do today was play glitzy indie rock. At least not until one of the blue guys crawled up and waved the CD case around; it had a sticker reading something about 'Fandom's Own' or whatever.

"Since when are you guys patriots?" he asked, eyeing them warily.

The blue guy just scowled at him, then vanished under the counter.

"Okay, whatever," Dante said, put his feet up on the counter, and tipped back for a nap.

For the first time since she showed up here, Faith had actual scrip. Well, they called it cash here, but she was pretty sure it could help her buy things, which was the important part.

She stepped into the store with her whopping five dollars (!!!) in her gloved hand and a mostly uncertain look on her face. "Uh, hi?"

She couldn't tell if he was asleep or not.

Dante opened one eye and squinted at her lazily. "Oh, hey, Faith."

So, yes, awake. Just not very mobile.

This was about what Faith would have expected if someone had told her Dante worked in a store.

"Sorry if I woke you up." Her tone was dry and more amused than sincere. If he was sleeping at work, that was pretty much his problem. "I was just gonna browse."

He was usually more energetic than this, but this week he just couldn't be bothered. Blame last Friday.

Dante waved a hand at the rest of the store. "Go ahead," he said, "A lot of it's old-fashioned crap, but there's some good stuff."

"Thanks," she said, stepping out of the doorway and entering the store proper. The first few price stickers she caught sight of did not fill her with confidence that this endeavor would pan out. "Uh, I don't really know - any idea what I can get with this?"

She held out her crumpled-up five-dollar bill from Rhys. Paper scrip was so weird.

"... Half a Spotify gift card?" Dante offered, craning his neck to look. "Or a drink and some Doritos." Beat. "Not here, though."

"Really?" She scowled. "Well, that stinks."

But on the plus side, Doritos.

"My neighbors won't stop yelling at each other," she groused. "I figured I could at least block them out. I'll stick to earplugs, I guess."

Dante snapped his fingers. "Those, you can buy with five bucks," he said. "Who're your neighbors?"

"Already got 'em." Someone was already used to dorm-style living. "Rhys and Kuzco? Rhys is kinda cool. Kuzco is... a lot." To put it mildly.

"I met Rhys a couple times," Dante said. "Robot hand guy. Worries way too fucking much. Kuzco... which one's that?"

You'd hate him, Dante. Don't worry.

"Uh, he's loud and he wears togas?" Faith tried. "He was sleeping on the common room couch for a few days the other week."

"Oh, right," Dante said, thinking back. "Rhys complained about him a few times too." But Rhys complained so much, Dante kinda tuned half of it out. "You're stuck with them, huh? Tough luck."

"Yeah." She scowled some more. It was a pretty common facial expression for her. "It's fine, I can sleep through anything. It's just when I'm awake that it's annoying."

Which was another reason why she was out in town today, yes.

"Do you have any weird neighbors?"

"Nah, just Rufus, and he's a cool guy," Dante said. (Honestly, if anyone was That Neighbor, it was probably Dante and his extracurriculars.) He shrugged one shoulder. "Maybe you should buy a bunch of egg cartons and line the walls. Like a music studio."

Faith blinked. "Does that work?" Not that she could afford enough egg cartons with her five bucks, at least until she got her first paycheck, but it was an interesting idea. "My other idea was just to slowly become nocturnal," she admitted with a slight smirk.

"Plenty to do at night," Dante said, waggling his eyebrows. Then he smirked, looking away from her. "But yeah. I mean, 's not the same as professional stuff, but I think a bunch of garage musicians use it."

Faith actually grinned at that attempt at flirting, although her mind undoubtedly went to a different place than Dante's had.

"Yeah, I guess it's probably cheaper to stick to earplugs and maybe music when I get some more scrip," she sighed. "But I'll probably start staying up later too. I haven't really seen this city at night yet."

So, yes. That was where her mind went.

"Dark and quiet," Dante said wryly. "Fandom's far from the big leagues."

[faithseesred]

"I don't know, it's kind of... quaint," she settled on. "You can actually hear yourself think here. And the buildings are sort of pretty."

That part, she sounded a little unsure about.

Another one-shoulder shrug. "It's all European and shit."

Yes, thank you, Dante. You were truly an artist with words.

"It just gets boring out here at night. Everyone's asleep."

[faithseesred]

'European' wasn't ringing a bell for Faith, but she breezed past it.

"That's kind of the best part though, isn't it?" she countered. "I like that you can go for a walk and not run into anyone."

"Go for a walk," Dante echoed, dubiously. "Hey, you do you. But I could be alone anywhere, I don't need to be here for that."
