Demon Marcus, Thursday Afternoon

The visitors were gone, there wasn't any ominous fog, and Ada had a shipment of fantasy-like jewelry to inventory and put away. Fantastical ear-cuffs, finger-claws, hair nets... it was all quite pretty. Well, she wasn't a fan of the mermaid necklace, but everything else was pretty.

Demon Marcus was open, and the mermaid was typing slower than usual because this thing is a fucking pain is playing with shinies.

Ringo had handwavily told Shiemi to meet her at Demon Marcus since the other girl clearly needed to add something that wasn't a kimono to her wardrobe. But if they were going to be shopping for Shiemi when she arrived, obviously Ringo had to show up early herself. Because how else was she going to see if there was anything awesome for her? (And because she was pretty sure that Ada worked Thursdays, and Ada was always fun to talk to.)

Shiemi managed to find the store and now was faced with the task of finding Ringo... "Hello?" she asked, peering around.

And yes, she was in a kimono. Sorry. It was that or her True Cross Academy uniform.

"Shiemi!" Ringo called, her head visible as she stood up on tip-toes to peek over one of the racks. She waved a hand. "Over here, over here!"

"Ah!" Shiemi smiled and waved back, skipping eagerly over to join her. "I made it! So many clothes!"

She stared at the rack in awe. "Oh! I wanted to ask, why is the store named after a demon?"

"You know, I have no idea." Ringo shrugged. "Have to come by sometime when the owner is here and ask, I suppose."

"As long as he's not a demon," Shiemi grinned. "The ones I've met don't really have pretty clothes."

"Have you been waiting long? I got here as fast as I could. I'm really excited!"

"Well, I wanted to do some shopping for myself before you got here, so I haven't exactly been waiting for you." Ringo grinned.

"And I'm glad you're excited! I am, too!" She waved a hand at all the clothes. "You ready?"

"READY!" Shiemi held up her purse and smiled. "I even have money! Mom sent me extra this month."

"..."

"How do we start?"

Ringo grinned. "First, we decide what we want for you. Dresses? Or blouses and skirts? Pants? What do you want to try first?"

Shiemi tapped her chin, trying to decide. "I don't know. I've always worn traditional clothes. At least until I started going on missions."

"Well, let's start with skirts, then, hmm?" Ringo grinned. "Which means you'll need some tops you're comfortable in, too!"

"Mhmm!" Shiemi bounced happily in agreement. "Starting there is a good idea; I know how to wear a skirt." She tucked her purse away and turned to the racks. So many clothes!

"How do we find one? I haven't been clothes shopping before."

Ringo looked Shiemi up and down thoughtfully. "Well, first we figure out what kind you like? Do you want something long like a kimono, or do you want to change things up?" She was already beginning to sift through one of the racks of skirts.

"I don't mind long or short. The one I wear at Cram School comes down to here," she put her hand to her thigh. "It felt weird the first few times I wore it, but I like how easy it is to run in. Oh! A quick glance back at Shiemi, then to the skirt, and Ringo nodded and pulled it off the rack. "Green, huh? Good call. It's a good color with your hair."

Not that Ringo was a fashion expert, but she'd learned a lot over the past year. Which meant she paid attention to things like color now.

"And it has Penelope-san on it!" Shiemi reached to take the skirt, hugging it. "Cute!"

Ringo blinked, a little bit confused. "Penelope-san?" she repeated.

"Penelope-san." Shiemi coloured a little as she held up the skirt and pointed to one of the leeks in the pattern. "S-sorry. It's the name I gave to spring onions when I was small. Yuki-chan says I need to use plants' real names but I forget when I get excited."

Another blink, then Ringo giggled. "You don't have to apologize." It was waaaay cute, Shiemi!

"S-sorry," Shiemi apologized again, this time with a grin; Ringo's laugh was contagious. "I mean, okay."

"Ano... So I can get this one?"

"Not yet." Ringo grinned. "You can hold onto it, but you can't just get the first thing you find. You need to find at least three different things, nothing too similar, and then you get to try them all on and see what you like about them."

There was a system to be respected here, Shiemi! Ringo had learned it from her senpai, and now you were going to learn it.

Ooooh! Shiemi nodded and whipped out a notebook to write this all down blinked in astonishment. "Three?! I have to get that many?"

"You have to pick that many to try on. How many you get is something we'll figure out once you've tried them on." She grinned. "So, two more skirts, and at least one top to try with them."

"This is complicated, isn't it?" Shiemi asked, amazed. The last time she'd been clothes shopping... had she ever been? Her mother and grandmother had both preferred traditional clothes, as well, so she had lots of kimono that had simply been resized to fit her. "The other girls in my Cram class talk about clothes shopping like it's easy."

"Just like anything, you get better with practice." Ringo grinned, digging through another rack and humming over skirts and blouses. "I mean, when I first started shopping for my own stuff," not that long ago, really, "I was pretty bad at it, too!"
