Homecoming Brunch, the Park, Sunday

Okay, so after the glitter monster, StuCo might have been running low on glitter. There were yellow-and-blue streamers all around the park instead, tipped with just a little bit of glitter.

But Dante'd found a bunch of old Nuka-Cola decorations back in whatever Town Hall storage closet had housed those weird roaches yesterday. So, y'know. There were a bunch of cardboard soda bottles smiling at you while you ate. Nice, right?

In hindsight, Jono wasn't completely certain why he had opted to come to the brunch today instead of the actual dance yesterday, considering he was a graduate of the school himself and could reasonably go as a homecoming guest instead of feeling obligated to play chaperone. Maybe it was just that yesterday had been an off day. He hadn't even gone to work after all. And the park was nice and open, which meant that he could quite easily just sort of plant himself off to the side and people-watch.

If there were visitors that he actually knew, all the better. He'd been around long enough that there were liable to be a few.

He wasn't going to think about the odds that some of those visitors might have once been his students, too. That route was the route to madness.

Envy had been one of his students. But that had been many years and a whole other name ago, and at least outwardly she didn't look a ton like that student anymore, at age twenty-five with her platinum hair and blood-red lips, and her expensive clothes meant to accentuate the way she'd weaponized her attractiveness.

But she wasn't here to use any of her weapons on him. So her small smile was genuine, rather than predatory.

"Hey, Jono."

That was for the best. Jono probably wouldn't be able to process a predatory look from her, Envy or otherwise.

//Envy!// Jono was giving her a pleased look in turn, complete with a small, pleasant nod of his head in greeting. //Good to see you made it for the weekend, luv. It's been a while.//

"I wouldn't even be here if my... former manager hadn't planned the break into my schedule," Envy admitted with a very slight shrug. "I'm on my North American tour right now."

//That... that is an amazing thing to need to schedule a break in,// Jono replied, expression going from pleased to thrilled. //It's going well, I hope?//

He was sure it was, really, but so help him, he was going to ask anyway. He wanted to hear it from her mouth, blast it.

"It's going very well." See, she even smiled a bit. (The narrative would've claimed she couldn't help it, but, she could. She just chose not to, at this time.) "Some places have been sold out, and all the crowds have been pretty intense."

See? It was an excellent sign when she actually let herself smile over something like that. Jono gave a little nod, proud of her.

//I might need to start stalking ticket sales,// he mused. //This is a tour I definitely don't want to miss.//

Jono wasn't worried about intense crowds. Situations that he'd avoid like the plague otherwise, he tended to get right into the groove for, for the sake of concerts. Doubly so, when they were concerts for people he liked.

"We're finishing up Canada in the next few days, then moving down to the States," Envy replied. "I can just put you on the guest list indefinitely, you shouldn't have any trouble."

She didn't have an overly long guest list. He'd fit on there just fine.

"Also," she added, "before I go, I have to have someone bring a crate over to the store, because I don't think Groovy Tunes was ever shipped my album."

Guest list! Album! Envy was making Jono's day.

//I'd definitely remember if we'd been shipped your album,// he agreed, nodding. //I can meet somebody at the store whenever works best, I haven't exactly got any other plans for the remainder of the weekend, really. And this is something I'm going to want to promote, for sure.//

Luke and Artoo were in the park, glancing confusedly at the signs. Was Fandom accepting sponsorship for events now?

There was, as always, a moddable spread of a variety of breakfast and lunch foods, including breakfast pizza.

Strangely enough, most of the soda had been replaced by several of the many varieties of Nuka-Cola.

That was not on purpose.

Hello, food and drinks!

Of course Dante was over here, scooping slices of breakfast pizza onto his plate and snagging some Nuka-Quartz. Whatever that was.

Best just to sit down and avoid all that post-apocalyptic madness, really.

Lucille had chosen a breakfast without that strange drink. The advertising was horrible, who ever had come up with it? She should complain about it at the next StuCo meeting. She also hoped Ringo wasn't going to show up and want to share her breakfast.

Anders had steered clear of the Homecoming festivities so far, simply because they reminded him far too strongly of two people who should have been there but weren't. Better to be lonely all on his own than to inflict his malaise on others.

But he had to walk through the park to get to work anyhow, and the smell of bacon had amazing powers of distraction. He piled a plate with meats, cheeses and pastries and sat down to properly appreciate it all.

You know, there was something about the way Anders'd been the past two days that made Dante reconsider his normal 'yo, Anders' in favor of something else, the moment he spotted the guy. Just trying to get a smile, really.

So it was an upbeat, kinda teasing "Hey, gorgeous," he greeted the guy with instead, parking his giant plate of pizza down next to Anders' stack.

"I'll take that," Anders said, with a dim smile. "Hey, Dante. How was the dance?"

Not good. Sigh.

Dante slid into a seat without showing any real concern. "Dance-y," he offered easily. "Homecoming royalty for the second time running. I know a couple of cops back home I could probably knock out outta shock just by mentioning that."

"Forget cops, I'd faint right now if I wasn't eating," Anders agreed easily. He wasn't as up for banter as on his best days, but it didn't mean he couldn't try. "Congratulations. Who was your lucky queen?"

Dante'd settle for trying. (And he wasn't above getting ridiculous to cheer Anders up, either.) "Ahsoka," he said, reaching for a chunk of pizza. "Not too used to dancing, but I think we made it work." He took a bite. "Well, kinda. My feet heal too."

She hadn't been that bad.

That got a genuine chuckle. "Lovely girl," Anders agreed. "But not exactly the tiara and waltz kind. You're lucky all she got was your feet."

"Apparently she bites," Dante said, making his eyes comically big. "That scared the shit out of me, obviously."

"Obviously," Anders agreed, eyes just as wide. "We know how much you hate biting."

He felt ... a little better. Strange how conversation and sunlight did that.
