Valentine's Dance, Town Hall, Saturday Evening

This year's Valentine's Dance lined up so well with the upcoming Carribean Spring Break that there was only one choice for a theme: Love In The Islands. Throughout the hall, several islands were outlined in glitter. Photo Island had several backdrops for people to get their picture taken in front of. Food and Drink Island had all the options you had come to expect from Fandom (specifically a Fandom where Frank had any power over beverage selections). And for the singles out there, Shadow Island was dark and black for your rejection of all the pink and red and love. However, just to the side with a brighter color palette, the Cupid Republic was there for anyone looking to make a new connection.

Yes, all of these islands were marked out on the floor in glitter, and by the end of the night those outlines were sure to be moved all the way around. Was it poor planning? Or was it a subtle commentary on the rising tides that would ruin island life in the terrifyingly close future? Probably just the former, so take your mind off of it by relaxing under a glittery palm tree and drinking out of a coconut!

Welcome to the Valentine's Islands! Meet your friends and look around at all of the glitter that will soon be on you! And yes, that starts with glittery leis being issued as soon as you walk in. Of course it does.

Ada's skin (and hair, and dress, to an extent) was already dusted with gold glitter -- the better to camouflage her scales with -- but she was more than happy to take a glittery lei or two to start off the evening right.

Her lei was immediately turned into a glittery flower crown atop her hair, and she was off into the crowd. Looking for her friends, the punch, or some dancing, whichever came first.

Thorin sincerely doubted that these islands existed. And he was always going to give the glitter a look of utter disdain.

Lucille arrived, wearing the dark red dress she usually wore for occasions like these. She did her best to look unimpressed and stay away from the glitter.

Dress was really the wrong word for what Isabela was wearing, since that would imply it covered more than the barest fraction of her legs.

Or all that much of her torso either, to be quite honest.

Hyacinthe still wasn't entirely sure about all of this glitter. It wasn't edible, like Ada's, and it lingered for weeks afterwards, but he did appreciate the way it sparkled on his suit and in his hair.

And on all the exposed skin of his very pretty classmates.

Photo Island [VD 2017]

There was a variety of backdrops for people to use, whether it was a romantic sunset (http://i64.tinypic.com/15rzkog.jpg), a bunch of fish (http://i65.tinypic.com/2gt80f4.jpg), or a movie poster that made it clear that this was a platonic date (http://i64.tinypic.com/91mre0.jpg).

It was an island buffet, which meant the same kind of completely moddable selection, just with more pineapples than usual and all the cups were shaped like coconuts.

And since Frank was still on StuCo somehow, there was the usual division between untainted punch and unpunched booze. You could tell the difference based on which one Frank was standing next to.

Frank stood next to the booze, drinking it throughout the night, per the original comment in this thread. if you wanted normal punch, it was slightly down the table.

Somehow, Merrill ended up where the food was. And from there, she drifted over toward the punched booze.

Dance Barge [VD 2017]

How do you get a party boat feel in an island dance party that takes place indoors? With a dance barge! Which is exactly the same thing as the regular dance floor, but you use your imagination to pretend that it's on the water.

Shadow Island [VD 2017]

Hey, friend. Not feeling great about being single? Or maybe you're dodging the SO. Come to Shadow Island. It's over in the corner and it is dark as hell. There's some black furniture to sit or rest your drinks on. The lighting is spotty at best. It's the perfect place to get away from all of the pink and red glitter.

I mean, there's black glitter here. You can't escape the glitter.

Cupid Island [VD 2017]

Where the light starts to actually be at normal levels to the side of Shadow Island is Cupid Island, where you can get your flirt on. Sure, you could do that anywhere, but here's an island just for that!

The Chaperone's Retreat [VD 2017]

Where the teachers get to stand around and make sure nothing goes terribly wrong or nobody has a terrible glitter allergy.

Goody somehow already had glitter on him and no amount of brushing it off seemed to work despite his best efforts.

Which meant he was going to retreat to the... retreat with a healthy glass of the provided alcohol in order to pretend none of this was happening.
