After the excitement of the weekend, Ada was almost sad at the lack of visitors. It was going to give her plenty of time to work on her alternations queue, which was starting to fill up with prom outfits, and possibly work on her own dress.

Demon Marcus was open and the mermaid... was deciding how brave she was going to be.

Dante was still a little shaken by.... any number of things that had happened today. But he wanted to check on Ada. So after leaving the Perk, he swung by Demon Marcus. "Ades?"

Ada glanced up from her sewing, a smile spreading over her face. "Hey, Dante," she said, setting her work on the counter. "Shoppin' two weekends in a row, or here t' help me slack off for m' lunch?"

"You got anything that matches with this?" Dante joked, pointing at his hair. "I was wondering."

"Nothing that's gonna be nicer than that pretty face of yours," she teased right back. "--but I bet we can find something. Maybe some glittery barrettes?"

Dante snickered. "Sounds like my bag," he said, leaning on the counter. "How're you doing, Ades?"

"I ain't a boy, didn't have no classes today, an' I got good company, so I'm doin' pretty good," Ada laughed, digging around under the counter for a moment to pull out some of the fun flavored sodas and offer him one. "Really, I just need some nice tropical sun t' bask in, but a girl can't have everything I guess."

"Almost to grad, maybe time to start planning a vacation," Dante teased. "... If they pay you enough around here for one."

"Hey now! Sparkle pays me!" Which you turn around and spend on your family, Ada. "Besides, I wait a few weeks, and maybe the island will start taking us on a tour for th' summer again, and I don't gotta pay for nothing."

"Lazy ass," Dante accused easily. "I might be dragging Anders out on a roadtrip after grad. Got any tips, traveller queen?"

"You like my ass," she pointed out with a smirk. "And I got lots of tips, but it depends on what kinda roadtrip you wanna do. Just drive a lot, or see weird shit, or just drive somewhere warm to be lazy asses."

Her number one tip was 'stay the fuck out of Alabama,' but Ada was biased.

"See weird shit," Dante said. "We were talkin' about doing Disneyworld and New Orleans and the Grand Canyon and the beach..."

Look, the roadtrip was a really calming topic.

"I want a picture of you two at Disneyworld!" Ada decided instantly, utterly delighted at the idea. "...you know they got lots of cats that live there, right? T' help take-care of the park. I saw a video about it on th' internet."

"Seriously?" Dante said, brightening. "Anders is gonna love that."

"Yeah, if you search for 'cats of Disneyland,' you get all sorts of articles and pictures. They even got their own social media," she said, laughing. "Since they're feral, they don't come out too much during the day, an' people make a game outta trying to spot 'em."

"Like...cat bingo, I guess." Ada grinned. "Are you gonna be able to get him outta th' park?"

"I can always throw him over my shoulder and carry him out?" Dante suggested merrily.

"Is he gonna swoon like a damsel in one of th' smutty books? 'Cause that would be hilarious," Ada mused. "Anders strikes me as capable of faking a swoon just t' be a brat."

Dante laughed. "Oh, he'd totally fake a swoon, and then he'd be a dick about it the whole way back," he said fondly. "It'd be epic."

Really, Dante, you two were so cute that Ada was seriously needing to bite her cheek to keep from singing about 'Dante and Anders sitting in a tree."

She grinned at him instead. "I'd almost consider gettin' a roommate for th' summer, if'n I knew we were gonna get on as well as you an' Anders," she laughed. "Guess I'll just make do with havin' lots of friends over."

Dante grinned. "Could always ask Iz to move in with you," he teased. "You two are close anyway."

Wink wink.

"Uh-huh. And then you get one-stop-shopping when you wanna hang out with your favorite girls," Ada retorted, bemused. "Don't think I don't see your wicked plan."

"You can call it the funhouse," Dante said brightly.

"It's already th' fun room," she said, tossing her hair. "...or maybe th' room of ill-repute. Is it gonna be overkill if'n I put a lamp with a red bulb in th' window?"

"Nah, it'd give it character," Dante said. "Maybe get some silk sheets. Purple."

"Now that does sound nice," she replied thoughtfully. "...I know what 'm spending m' next paycheck on."

Hopefully they wouldn't snag on her scales.

"Add some more nice big pillows...now you got me in a decorating mood," Ada sighed. "Maybe we should throw another party t' get it outta my system b'fore m' bedroom ends up looking like something outta 'Bela's stories."

"We got prom next week," Dante mused. "Maybe we should have an anti-prom with real booze."

"We should do...what's it called... 'after-prom'? TV says it's a thing, where high schoolers go to a big party after th' dance an' there's games an' stuff. And real booze." Ada Miller, you know better than to believe the television. "We could do an after-prom. Or something b'fore grad."

"I don't care when we do it, I just think it should be big," Dante mused. "Maybe grab the warehouse again..."

"I like th' way you think," Ada said, pushing her sewing out of the way so she could climb up on the counter and sit next to him, drumming her heels against the front. "Or we could go out to Baltimore again. Or both! Both is good!"

Ada Miller, you're a greedy little brat and you know it.

"Nah, we need to do it on the island to draw in all the stragglers who never do the parties," Dante said, laughing. "We can do Baltimore during break, maybe."

Before or after that roadtrip him and Anders kept dreaming about.

"Parties all summer," she decided. "Since once I go home, it's time t' work an' no more play!"

"... Oh, crap. You're graduating, aren't you?" Dante realized.

"Uh-huh," she said, giving him a wry grin. "'M th' family rebel for finishing high school. Ain't that a kicker?"

"Could do one better and even go to college," Dante joked easily.

Aw, of course Ada wouldn't be sticking around. Dammit.

Ada snorted in amusement. "Sure, if'n there were a college as nutty as this school," she replied. "--but I ain't cut out for academics, 'cept for stuff like shop class or home ec."

It would be a disaster. She'd be a disaster.

"B'sides. Mermaids gotta roam."

"Isn't there like a clown college?" Dante teased. "Or you can do the shitty hipster thing and go backpacking."

Ada looked at him in mock-horror. "An' what th' hell have I ever done t' you for you t' suggest I go be a hipster???"

Mean, Dante, just mean.

"Anything's better than being miss All Work And No Play," Dante argued. "I'll even live with hipster."

"I'll come back for Homecoming, if'n I can get away," she promised. "And you can always come visit me if'n you think I need a reminder on how t' have fun outside of m' work."

Ada grinned and leaned over to bump his shoulder with her arm. "Maybe we should do that one weekend; everyone go back with me while I drop stuff off.
I got a ton of cousins that'll love you. Th' girls adore boys with pretty eyes an' bad ideas."

...which was most of Ada's male friends, to be fair. Miller girls generally had A Type.

Dante laughed. "I can show them a good time," he said, "If you guys are into that sort of thing."

He probably didn't mean that kind of good time anymore, these days. Maybe.

Ada just laughed. "If it's a bad idea, there's at least one Miller that thinks it's a good time," she said. "People don't become carnies 'cause they're normal."

"Bar fights, drunken go-cart racing, stupid dares... if it's a terrible idea, at least one of us is down for it."
