"Okay, what is this nerdy crap?"

The piece of paper in Tamsin's hands was definitely some kind of nerdy crap, she was sure of it. Still, it was their best shot at at least getting the island back to somewhere that had actually decent bars.

She eyed the weird rocks embedded into the wall by Galactica Point. "I always thought some kid with too much time and no basement to fester in had come up with this," she muttered. She glanced over her shoulder at the waiting hordes. "Okay, here we go. Up, up, down, down--"

Oh god. It really was nerdy crap.

"Even though all the D-list villain clones we ever meet happen to be based off of friends of yours?" Hardison teased.

Tony scoffed in mock offense. "All of those were Spider-Man's. My villains are... okay, not much better."

"Did y'all ever think about maybe thwartin' evil-doers less obviously?" he asked, like he didn't geek out about Tony's armor all the time. "Our villains ain't even know we're there until they're bein' led off by the feds."

"That's more Fury's style," Tony replied with a grin. "And it's a little hard to be covert when you're wearing red and gold armor. Think maybe I should switch the color scheme?"

BUMBLE BEE ARMOR FOR LIFE, TONY.

"Oh yeah," Hardison said, Nodding Solemnly. "Black and silver armor with lasers will be much more inconspicuous than red and gold with lasers."

"They're repulsed beams." A beat. "Lasers were less effective."

"My real question is how come you ain't gone with some kind of light-deflecting invisibility field," Hardison declared.

Hardison's science flirted with the impossible from time to time. Tony's science not made out with the impossible on the regular, but brought it home for breakfast

Introduced impossible to the folks even.

"Cost versus effectiveness," Tony admitted. "One crack and you're done. I'd need to pour more research into nanotechnology to make it feasible and there's loads more worthy projects there."

And here, Hardison was still trying to get the impossible to hold hands sometimes.

"Why, whatcha workin' on now?"

This whole 'trip into underground lair' thing could wait. Tony was talking science!

Well maybe if he played hard to get?

"Right now? Lighter weight armor. Something I don't need to carry around in a vault," he replied, letting the gauntlet form around his hand.

He had boots and gauntlets done. Because those were easy.

And here Eliot always kept telling him to quit slow-playing it!

"That's so cool," Hardison said, stars practically forming in his eyes. "If that ain't nanotech, how's it work?"

Eliot would also probably love if Hardison got something like that. He seemed convinced that Hardison was squishy!

...Probably because Hardison was squishy.

Well he could be like Tony and fling himself into even more danger because of the armor!

"Some nanotech," Tony replied, moving his fingers to keep testing the flexibility. "But it's mostly based on the, ah, the stuff stored in my body now."

Normal things!

Hardison could almost hear the grumpy yelling now!

"Guessin' that ain't somethin' I could try for myself then," Hardison said, tactfully refrained from asking further questions, even though he really wanted to. "There goes my hope of askin' for glowy gauntlets for my thirtieth birthday."

Tony laughed and shook his head. "I'm too possessive over the armor."

Unless you were Rhodey.

"But I'm sure I can make you a much nicer phone to make up for it."

"Oooh, talk to me about your phone tech, Tony," Hardison said.

Honestly, Hardison, your boyfriend was right there.

He just didn't understand their beloved technology!

"Darling, you've made my day," Tony replied with a grin. "I've had to work around people capable of crushing boulders with their bare hands and... well, Clint doing things like placing it in a blender."

A beat.

"Different Clint from the one here."

Because his Hawkeye's only archenemy was poor choices.

"Why would someone put it through a blender?!" And why would you offend his sensibilities by telling him about it, Tony?!

Hardison was going to side-eye Clint so hard the next time they saw each other, different version or no.

"YouTube apparently." Tony had given up asking why after the third time. "I was just glad no one was breaking doors anymore "

"So, remember back when I said your villains were weird," Hardison said, giving Tony a bit of side eye.

Why would you hang out with these people, Tony? They just hurt you! And your tech!

"Oh, the team is way weirder," Tony agreed cheerfully. "Infinitely so."

"An' this is why I hung out with a crew of thieves instead," Hardison declared.

Well, that and also being a thief. That was another big reason.

"Somehow I don't think I'd be too welcome in that company," Tony replied dryly.

"I dunno," Hardison mused. "You might be a superhero, be we were bein' led by an honest man, so..."

And doing damn right by other people, too.

"I've got a bit of a bad reputation back home," Tony said carefully, scratching at his goatee. "Not the whole superhero thing."

"I mean, so do I," Hardison pointed out. "...At least in some circles."

But he had a feeling that's not what Tony meant.

"Rich business man that don't play nice with others?" he hazarded. "Too busy gettin' richer?"
