Demon Marcus, Thursday
Ada was bored.
No, wait, that wasn't accurate. She'd been home for a few days to drop things off and do some repairs to her trailer, since it had been sitting idle and empty for two years. She'd had plenty of things to do, and she had more than enough little tasks to do here at work to keep her hands busy. There was inventory, and the store could use a good deep-cleaning, and invoice sheets to organize.
Ada was lonely. It had been so nice to be in the middle of the hustle and noise of the carnival, and her family had clearly missed her, but... they weren't as openly affectionate as her friends were. Well, that wasn't fair. They were. They laughed and messed up her hair and told her how much they'd missed her. It was just removed slightly, because they all knew they were going to lose her, just like Marti. And maybe if they held a little bit of their hearts back this time, it wouldn't hurt as bad.
But it had been loud and boisterous and everything Miller, and Fandom was so deadly silent by comparison. It was enough to make a carnie positively twitchy.
Demon Marcus was open, and the mermaid had the music turned up and her dancing shoes on, while she ran around counting inventory. It was better than letting her brain get all spun up over nothing.

"What say you, rinkeni?" he asked. "Does the color suit me?"

"Maybe next time I take you with, then. So you can disappoint th' Jedi in a different way by playin' hooky."

He'd been the last person to come in during the race and yet had still worn an expression similar to the cat that had gotten all of the cream.
"I would like that," he said. "Your carnival is still the closest I've seen to a Tsingano kumpania in this world. I'd like to see it for myself. Though I've no doubt I would be watched quite carefully by your uncles."
He paused for a moment, then asked casually, "And how would you like to perhaps see Terre D'Ange some time? Mayhaps this summer as well?"
no subject
"Uncles, aunties, cousins...though th' cousins might be watching you for other reasons," she agreed cheerfully. "--wait, Terre D'Ange? Really? You'd want me t' visit even though you'd have t' translate most everything?"

Sorry, Hya, but your friend was totally ridiculous.

He was a hero!

Beat.
"...Though any tumbling you wished to do otherwise..." he said, giving her a suggestive wink.

Setting her loose in Night's Doorstep is a terrible plan, Hyacinthe. You have only yourself to blame.

"The way your brain works is a constant delight to me," he informed her with a grin, before trying to steal a kiss.

She'd been gone four whole days, he'd just invited her to come visit a whole new world, and they'd been good for at least twenty
pingsminutes. A rather thorough kissing was required.no subject
And if his hands gently cradling her waist and his eyes full of warm fondness and his deep and fervent kiss said that he missed her far more than his words ever could, well, that was true, was it not?
no subject
Or just for fun, Ada liked that reason too.
But she'd missed him, too, and her kiss said as much.

He slid down from the counter and turned around, stepping between her legs and grabbing her hips, sliding her a little closer to kiss her again.

When the kiss finally broke, she was slightly breathless, even for a girl who didn't really need to breathe air. "Pretty sure 'm not s'poosed t' have m' way with you on the counter while th' store's open," she chuckled, leaning in to nuzzle his neck for a moment. "Ain't no one been in here all day but you. Let me close up quick, an' we can enjoy those treats you brought?"
Spoiler alert, Hyacinthe: You're the treat.

Did he intend to sit her right back up on that counter as soon as the door was locked and have her eat a pastry while he devoured something else?
Abso-fucking-lutely.
