The Boards, Sunday

They were going on vacation this evening, and Jono was...well, getting ready, more or less, so Hannibal had promised him to get things ready for rehearsal until he arrived.

So, there was very good beer here today, along with homemade sausages and an assortment of cheese and crackers for snacks.

There was still a sign outside reading, Band rehearsals! Come and join us! Open mic!

The Boards was open for band rehearsal or anyone who wanted to grab the microphone.

We're down a bassist for a little while, but anyone is welcome!

Dante showed up as per usual, guitar slung over his back. Once he arrived, he sat down and started fiddling around with a few chords.

Hannibal nodded to him and started playing notes on the piano that went along with his chords. "How are you today?"

"Can't complain," Dante said easily. (He could, but whatever, he wasn't in the mood.) "Time for vacation, right?"

Or heading off to Limbo City to kill shit. One or the other.

"It is," Hannibal agreed. "Do you have any plans?"

Killing things was absolutely a plan.

"Heading back home, seeing how people are doing," Dante said vaguely. He had no idea how much Starsmore had told Lecter about back home, or how much the guy would wanna know. "Been putting that off for too long. You?"

Hannibal had heard some, but he also knew enough about Dante that he was aware prying would be counterproductive. "We're going on a cruise. Something pleasant without being in the middle of a city of a million people."

"Just running away for it all for a week, huh?" Dante said. "Not bad."

"That's the idea." Hannibal smiled. "Luxury and privacy."

He gave Dante a curious look. "What would your ideal vacation be?"

Dante shrugged one shoulder. "Sun, sea and babes?"

That was a lie.

"Oh?" Hannibal grinned. "So, a cruise, then."

Come on, Dante, you could do better than that for a lie.

"Nah, more like the beach," Dante mused, "And nobody buzzing around my head."

Still lying, yep.

"So, your vacation involves no people at all, or only no annoying people?" Hannibal asked. "Or did you mean no mosquitos?"

You could still do better, Dante.

"No annoying people," Dante specified. "Just the cool kids."

"And who are the cool kids?" Hannibal asked, grinning. "Not me, I'm guessing. Nor any teachers."

"Anders, Kathy, Ada, Isabela..." Dante shrugged. "Sorry, they're cooler than you?"

"I imagine I will somehow survive," Hannibal said. "At your age, you should find them 'cooler' than me, after all. So, what's stopping you from putting this ideal vacation into practice?"

"Got better things to do," Dante said merrily.

He plucked a string. "Like jam with a teacher who likes to ask questions."

Hannibal chuckled. "Guilty as charged." He went back to playing. "But I still think if that's the vacation you want, you should take steps to make it happen."

"Just came back from a roadtrip a few weeks back," Dante said, shrugging. "I can wait."

"Oh?" Hannibal kept playing this time. "Did you see anything interesting?"

"New Orleans is the shit," Dante said, grinning.

Hannibal laughed at the phrasing. "It's somewhat European, for an American city. And it has some lovely architecture and graveyards. Or were you more interested in the bars?"

There was no judging there, just curiosity.

"The bars, the restaurants, screwing the boyfriend after hitting the bars and the restaurants..."

Look, this was Dante.

"Did you like the food?"

And this was Hannibal.

"Sure," Dante said casually, without skipping a beat. "It was fancy, but not tryin' too hard."

Oh, Dante. Hannibal had given up making you appreciate haute cuisine.

"They have a lot of interesting spices and meats there, even if they are overly fond of frying," he said. "Pizza isn't traditional, though," he teased.

Jump up and sing, play, read poetry, or whatever floats your boat!
