Hera didn't usually open the place herself on Sunday, but Eliot's guest had been interested in finding metal, and she seemed like a nice person, so here Hera was.

Trying to convince Chopper that nothing strange was going on.

"No sharks, no gourds, no anything weird, Chop, I promise. Unless one of the strangers stops by, it's just the same as always."

Syndulla Scrap was open, and the droid was suspicious.

Not that that was new.

The droid was awesome, you mean.

"Oh dude, you have a robot assistant! That's the coolest thing I've ever seen."

Chopper made a rude noise and got his shock attachment ready.

"Chopper, behave," Hera said firmly. "This is Cassie, and she's fine. Cassie, this is Chopper; he's a little jumpy today, because I'm usually only here on weekends if something weird is going on. Well," she amended, "weirder than usual."

"Hi, Chopper." Cassie gave the droid a smile. "So what counts as weird for people from your, uh, galaxy? Because I'm guessing it's probably not quite the same as Earth-weird."

"Even in my galaxy, I've never heard of storms throwing large animals at people before," Hera said. "And the huge rabbits were different; mostly things like that don't just suddenly appear. And it's rained a few really strange things, too."

"Makes sense. What did it rain?"

Eliot really hadn't told her anything about this island, no.

Hera thought about it. "Strings of beads one day. Paint another. I know Kanan's talked about other things from before I was here."

"And it blows sharks. I don't really know anything about meteorology, but those are some weird weather patterns."

"Definitely," Hera agreed. "But this place is pretty weird anyway. Still, the people are nice."

Chopper gave his own opinion on that, and Hera rolled her eyes. "Want to come see some of the metal I've separated out, or were you looking for something specific?"

"Nah, I don't have anything in particular in mind. Just looking for something that looks fun to make stuff out of."

"We've got some steel and iron scrap and a bit of copper for local things," Hera said, leading the way over to the section of things that were pretty much solid metal. "Desh and bondium from our galaxy, and a few things I have no idea what they are, apart from metal, non-radioactive, and occasionally magnetic."

"Ooo, mystery metal! That could be fun."

If it as non-radioactive, she wasn't too likely to accidentally kill anyone with it, right?

Not unless she hit them with it!

"Well, I also don't know the melting point or strength of any of them," Hera said, "though we can pull out a plasma welder and see."

She showed Cassie some blue-tinged metals, some that seemed to have a rainbow under the surface, and some that were a dark grey.

"Okay, so I'm definitely going to want to see the plasma welder in action. But I think I want some of this rainbow stuff either way."

She could figure out something she could make with that. Eventually.

"Sure! Hey, Chop, can you bring me a plasma welder and another pair of goggles?"

Hera took out a panel of the rainbow metal and leaned it up against the rest of the pile. Chopper brought the welder, and Hera passed the extra goggles to Cassie and put on her own before starting it up.

Cassie tugged the goggles on and rubbed her hands together. "You know, I've devoted my life to historic methods of metal manipulation, but there's something to be said for intergalactic sciences."

Hera grinned. "There's plasma welders on Earth, too, but I think they're not as powerful."

She started it on low power and held it up, watching the sparks and seeing how long till it melted.

"And they definitely don't let me this close to them," Cassie said with a grin. "Go mystery metal go!"

Hera waited until the metal started melting, then measured the temperature. "Looks like about 1600."

"That's barely more than iron. I can totally work with that. Wait, you mean celsius, right?"

"Um...I think so? I'm still getting used to you having two different scales," Hera said. "It's the one where ice forms at zero."

"That's the one. Rainbow broadsword, here I come!"

Hera grinned. "How much do you need?"

[prophetnotpoet]

"A solid sheet at least 130 centimeters long," Cassie said. "And maybe some smaller scraps of the blue-tinted one for accents?"

Hera nodded. "Pick up whichever of those blue ones you want. Chopper, help me move some of this? We're looking for more of these."

Cassie went over to sort carefully through the pile. "Right, so question I should have asked earlier: do you guys deliver? I'm pretty sure I won't be able to get these on a plane. It's not a deal breaker if you don't, but I will ask for advice about any other possible delivery services around here."

"You took a plane?" Hera blinked. "I just assumed you portalled here. I'm sure we can work out something, though. If shipping's too expensive, we'll just figure out a good place to land where you are."

Probably for the Escape and not the Ghost.

"I think I've heard Eliot and Hardison talk about portals a little," Cassie said. "But I thought they meant video games. That's actually a thing here?"

"That's how we got here," Hera said. "A portal opened up in our galaxy and Kanan flew through it. We head back sometimes the same way. How did you think this place worked if not something like that?" she asked, curious.

"I don't know. You have a space ship. I guess I just figured you flew here on it."

"I suppose that makes sense," Hera admitted. "But no, our galaxy is far away. We're not even sure where it'd be from here. And there are other people here from different worlds without ships. Portals are handy."

"Well sure. Teleportation is high on my list of fantasy superpowers," Cassie said. "It's just -- not very common where I'm from."

Or, you know, considered currently possible.

Hera smiled wryly. "Don't worry - it's pretty unheard of where we're from, too, except in theory."

"Glad to know I'm not the only one in at least a little bit over my head," Cassie said, shooting her a quick smile in return. "Right, well. If there are portals then I can probably just talk Uncle Eliot into bringing this stuff up to me."

"Okay, just let me know. I'll keep it for him to pick up, and find a way to get it to you if he doesn't," Hera said. "And you need to send me pictures of what you make!"
