The park had been transformed into the traditional Homecoming Carnival, open for everyone: students, teachers, townies and of course for visiting alumni.

 

Welcome to kiss, throw pies at or dunk your friends and enemies, and enjoy a nice sunny day.

Oh, hey. A kind of familiar face!

"Kitty!" shrieked Charlotte from the kiddie-backpack thing Bobby was wearing.

"No, that's not- Well. It is, I guess. Actually. Hey." That last bit was directed at Kitty herself.

"Hey! Welcome back," Kitty said, and gave Charlotte her own "Hey there!" because she didn't know her and didn't want to assume anything.

"Charlotte- this is the Kitty that lives where I used to go to school. Not the same one that lives where we live. I know, I know, it's kind of confusing, but trust me, kiddo, it's just gonna get worse from here on in. Kitty, this is Charlotte. AKA the best freakin' kid in the universe." Unless and until Henry ever happened. Then there'd be a tie.

"It's good to see you," Kitty told her, and added, "It might not be as confusing, I think. At least on the subject of our universe. Either that or I've gotten used to it."

"I mean, to be fair, none of us had to deal with that kind of sh- stuff- when we were still practically a baby." Bobby pointed out.

"Not baby!" Charlotte insisted.

"Oh my gosh, how could I forget? Of course you aren't!" Bobby replied. "But you're still littler than me." He added, as he passed a ball back over his shoulder. "Okay, see the big circle? Aim there, and throw as hard as you can!"

Surprise, surprise, Charlotte's throw... did not come anywhere near the target. You were safe for now, Kitty!

"We're going to have to work on your aim," Bobby commented drily.

"For her age, she's doing pretty well," Kitty said.

This was why she was a teacher: she was very supportive.
